Title: Searching for expansion cover and more ...
Post by: Retrofan on 2012.October.22. 18:50:23
Hi, I'm new at Enterprise Forever. I have an Enterprise sixty four without any cables or extensions (internal joystick is ok, machine is optical in good condition). I will buy a cheap power supply (9V/2A) at eBay and I have a TV cable already, so I can use the machine.

What I "need" is the cover for the expansion port and probably the basic cartridge. Do somebody have this two things for me?

If you want to use your third-party power supply, check the polarity, before you blow up your computer. By EP64 is the plug polarity is reversed. That means the plug's edge is positiv and the hole is negative. This is the opposite of common power supplies.

By EP64 the plug polarity is reversed.
Not only at the EP64, but EP128 too, isn't it?

Of course, Szipucsu. Anyway, is your modified power supply working well? Had you any problem with it?

Yes, it works perfectly! :ds_icon_cheesygrin:

(Now I see Retrofan has EP64, that's why you answered concerning the EP64, not the EP128.)

Retrofan, you can use EP without a basic cartridge only for games, can't you? As I know, you can load the basic extension from tape, too. Its content has been saved and uploaded to the net, if I don't err.

Thank for your answers. Luckily I already know the reversed polarity of the EP and I used a universal power supply for testing the computer. It works. Good news, that I do not need the basic cart for programming but it would be nice to have it, the same with the cover for the expansion slot. It would make the computer more complete. Are this parts common or rare?

I think it's almost impossible to get a cover. As for me, I don't know if I still have it. But maybe one of the forum members would give it to you as people don't really need it, I think. :)
A basic cartridge is more common, you might find one on the e-bay or on the vatera ("Hungarian e-bay"). But mostly full configurations are sold.

@szipucsu: Thank you for the suggestion with vatera. And if someone here doesn't need the expansion cover: I want it!

Is there a common modern connector, that fits in the EP monitor port? I want to solder a monitor cable.

Buy one long edge connector, for example this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-54mm-0-1-DOUBLE-SIDED-EDGE-CONNECTOR-GOLD-PLATED-PHOSPHOR-BRONZE-CONTACTS-/190633135705?). And cut for the proper length, it is enougth least for monitor plus two joysticks.

Pinouts and cable connections. (http://enterprise.iko.hu/pinouts.htm)

Thank you. I found an old FMF-connector in my cable box and I will cut it off.

Another Question: I want to run software on my EP64 but I don't have a diskdrive or something like that. I think it's the best solution to simulate a cassette player with my PC. Is there a PC-software, that converts EP-binaries to WAV/Sound-Output?

MrPrise wrote a great sw called TAPir (http://enterpriseforever.com/emulatorok/tapir/)
I uploaded here (http://enterpriseforever.com/emulatorok/tapir/msg26569/#msg26569) a complete package with the neccessary DLL files. Just start the TAPIR.EXE
