Programming / Re: Sell Exos 2.4?
« on: 2020.October.31. 17:55:59 »
Thank you for clarifying the situation and explaining how to do this correctly. I hope this helps to prevent ugly situations for others in the future.

I'd like to tell my accusers that I understand that selling the intellectual property of others is not okay. I think we are very much on the same page about this point. I just didn't feel this was the case here.

If a similar situation occurs in the future, I hope people will talk and give each other the benefit of the doubt. After all, this is our hobby and should be fun. :smt041

Excuse me, I do not want to generate a debate on this here. :smt018  All we noted with Tutus was that it was appropriate to ask Zozo in advance.

You control the fate of your own intellectual products as you wish, but you do not want to see anyone sell them without your statement.

I suggest that we do not continue the debate on this.

Sorry for contradicting you, but this is not quite what happened. If this was the intention, Tutus could have told me this instead of publicly humiliating me. But I guess we will not get to a point of agreeing on this.

I am very very frustrated about what happened here.

Here is my perspective on things and I hope you will at least try to understand me.
I am new to Enterprise and new to this forum and found many helpful tips here and enjoyed my time here so far.

At some point I read about EXOS2.4 and wanted to upgrade my machine. So I searched the web and found a description on how to do it is here:
http://www.ep128.hu/Ep_Util/Exos.htm

Links to the ROMs are here http://ep128emu.sourceforge.net/manual.html

here https://github.com/istvan-v/ep128emu/blob/master/README

and here: https://github.com/istvan-v/ep128emu

When I decided to sell one of my EPs, it had the EXOS2.4 already built in.
I have not found any word about not being allowed to sell an upgraded machine if the ROM is included and also not received an answer to my question where I would be able to find information about this rule.
Does this mean that anything that gets released here has to get taken out of the computer when you decide to sell it?  I definetly don't expect that anybody who might use my RAM expansion has to take it out when they sell there machine.
But this is me and my thinking, Zozosoft might have a different opinion about this point. Unfortunately I did not know (or expect) it and I was not able to get any answer from him yet to my personal message.

If I offended his rules, I am very sorry about this and hope he will forgive me. I have just taken the ebay auction offline and will sell the computer without this ROM.

I still don't understand why I get publicly accused of being unethical and this bothers me a lot.
Integrity is of very high value to me, since it is all that we have in the end.
What is left of my life is to short to spend nights without sleep asking myself what had happened.

I want to thank all the helpful people here and wish everybody to stay healthy in those difficult times!
I will move on from here to find some peace.

Goodbye,
Wolfgang

Still thinking.... May be a proportional compensation to Zozo for his work would be to mention him in the Ebay announce. Also a link to this wonderful web could bring more Enterprise members.

afaik ebay does not allow external links. I am also not allowed to alter the text, but I could mention Zozosoft as an additional comment. But I will not do anything like this without his consent.
I am willing to pay Zozo for the EXOS rom to compensate him. I just wished somebody would have told me this personally instead of calling me unethical in public, so that I can repair any damage that I might have caused unintentionally.  :(

I am sorry if I did something wrong. I was not aware that I am not allowed to sell it with my computer?
Can you please point me to the information about this?
Does this mean you have to take out the EXOS when you sell your computer? I am utterly confused and sorry for any problem that I might have caused.

Wanted / Re: EP with working 08-47 Nick
« on: 2020.October.17. 01:27:19 »
All three EPs on my workbench have the 08-04 Nick and exhibit the problematic pixels. One is really bad, two are acceptable (at least in most games). Reducing the temperature (cooling spray) reduces the phenomenon, but it never disappears completely.

Another good test for the problem seem to be interlace pictures.

When do you see blinking pixels, is it on the boot screen, or just within games?

My revision 4 motherboard with 08-04 Nick doesn't seem to be showing any propblems (yet) on a CRT ... are you viewing on a CRT, or upscaling to an LCD?

Apart from that ... good luck with the hunt!
Only in games and demos or the little BASIC test program on my TFT

Wanted / EP with working 08-47 Nick
« on: 2020.October.16. 16:07:20 »
Unfortunately, I have three EPs with 08-04 Nick. I would like to get a fully working 08-47 Nick without the blinking pixels.:smt022

Please offer anything from full computer to just the mainboard.

Thanks.

Interface / Re: Internal memory expansion
« on: 2020.October.16. 10:00:45 »
The 512KB of SRAM shows up as expected in banks $C0-$C3, $C8-$CB, $D0-$D3, $D8-$DB, $E0-$E3, $E8-$EB, $F0-$F3 and $F8-$FB.

My board is currently using:
first chip: $DC-$DF, $E0-$EF and $F0-$FB
the optional 2nd chip:  $BC-$BF, $C0-$CF, $D0-$DB
I tried to create contiguous memory. Is this the wrong approach and should I change the address range?

Somebody has cut that strip.

Just the point gets crackled on time, and a way to recover the membrane is to cut some millimetres.

Yes, but it seems this was already done in the factory. I found this to be the case with two out of three unopened EPs.:(

Yes, it works!

The case fits back together easily too, and there are no problems with the EXP1 cable.

But unfortunely, now I can't figure out how to get the flimsy mylar keyboard connectors back inside the sockets on the motherboard, and so I have no way to run the Advanced test on the memory ... or do anything else at all.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get those connectors into the sockets?
Great! :smt038

It seems that there are at least two versions of the original mylar.
One version has two equally long connectors.
The other version has a short left side connector and a long right side connector. Those are a *bitch* to get in. I always ask my wife (she loves me for this :smt074 ) to hold on to the top of the computer while, I use my most surgical hands to do the operation. :smt027

Get a new mylar. They are way better!

Excellent work!

I was worried when I saw the very narrow width of your +5V track, but it looks like it was OK ... congratulations! :)

Yes, I had the same worry but was not able to change it, since I am an absolute beginner with KiCad.

May I ask ... as another newcomer here, what interests you about having 1MB RAM instead of 512KB RAM?

Have I missed hearing about something fun that needs that much RAM on the Enterprise?
For no sensible reason, just intellectual curiosity. And my GAL has so many unused outputs.

And here are the files for anybody who wants to produce the board.
I would be glad to see pictures of produced boards. :)

Stay healthy!

btw.: J1 has the same order as Saints boards - i.e. GND GND A21 A19 A17 +5V GND A20 A18 A16

Great!

I think that the case will fit if you bend a little the EXP2 leads to the left. The eight of the piggy-back Ram chips is the same as the ones on the Saint's Ram expansions I have installed on my EPs, so that will not be a problem.

Yes, works nicely. I don't even have to bend anything. :)

My first 1MB prototype:
25584-0
2nd chip not even soldered yet:
25586-1
yeah - works! :smt026
25588-2
25590-3

I need to check if I can still put the top on though.....

Hardware / Re: Capacitors - wrong orientation?
« on: 2020.October.10. 18:46:41 »
This is a bit of topic but what is the difference between the different issues?

And I can confirm that the Egyptian EP64's are issue 6. At least my Egyptian EP64 is issue 6 :)
You are lucky then. My three EPs from Egypt are all issue 4 with the problematic NICK :(
