Congratulation! Do you win yesterday on the Ebay the machnines without accessories?

30 years ago where you see the Enterprise? For example PCW show or magazines?

Photos of original Enterprise PSUs. (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/IM000729.jpg)
The most important thing: the outer pole are the positive!

The ZX Spectrum (16/48/+/128/+2) PSUs are compatible but the +2A/+2B/+3 no!
128 or +2 type recommended because higher capacity.

The best starting point this forum! :-) If you have any questions just ask it!

On my page (http://enterprise.iko.hu/) you can download scanned English manuals.
From the ep128.hu (http://www.ep128.hu/) you can download all Enterprise softwares.

You can send programs with audio cable from your PC to Enterprise.
With MrPrise TAPir program (http://enterpriseforever.com/emulatorok/tapir/?action=dlattach;attach=7584) you can convert programs to WAV, and possible burn these to CD and use diskman as "tape player". Or convert WAVs to MP3 (using very high bitrate!) and MP3 Player also can be used, someone used mobile phone MP3 Player software.

For the first step after the PSU I recommend a SCART cable for the best picture quality.
Sometimes will be on the Ebay, but if you have some electronics experience the easy to build your own.

Like Zozo says a good Speccy PSU will do the trick.

128K+ is 9v 1.85A or a Speccy+2 is 9v 2.1A.

I first saw it previewd in magazines in 82/83 as samurai etc,
then I saw it in flesh at "Scottish Computer Show" in Edinburgh in 83? I think, it was  badged elan at the time,
and was blown away, started saving my pocket money.
By the time I saw one in real life after release 85?(once in a John Menzies computer dept), never seen or touched since...

Great start! The machines have a Basic cartridge?  (On the photos I not see them).
If no then you need it. But you can run machnie code programs without cartridge!

Yes, you can found on Ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-54mm-0-1-DOUBLE-SIDED-EDGE-CONNECTOR-GOLD-PLATED-PHOSPHOR-BRONZE-CONTACTS-/190633135705?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item2c629ece59) the remains will be good for other cables (joystick, printer).

I asked the seller: serial number of 128K machine is 00630, it is a very early machine!
The EP64 is 032285.

Zozo what is the relevance if low serial etc?

Are these two good machines i have bought? Do you think?

Do you need me to open and check mboards etc for you?

Yes, but the Basic is very rare :-( But I can sell one :-) not just Basic, for the remaining space can be placed other programs.

On the photos looking good, and important: both have the joystick cap for the internal joystick! This little piace are the first missing part of many machine, near to impossible find spare. (My hope the 3D printing will be common then possible produce spare parts).

Not needed especially if the Serial/Warranty label still intact. I wrote instructions (http://enterpriseforever.com/hardware/your-enterprise-configuration/msg28168/#msg28168) how can detect motherboard version on unopened machine.
Please make photos of serial labels and send to me for the inventory (http://enterprise.iko.hu/inventory.htm), with details. (Machine with intact label more evidence because can be sure the motherboard not changed.)
I looking for special questions for example exist a EP64 with ISSUE6 board or EP128 with ISSUE5?
From the current data I think the EP128 started with ISSUE6 but some bad ISSUE4 remainded from the early EP64 production, these after repaired put back to the production.
The interesting on the ISSUE4 boards the company name FLAN instead the Enterprise! One name earlyer, and this name only valid for about 1 month (1984 February-March).

Hi Zozo

I have the machines in hand now.

to me both look Issue 4, will confirm 100% by opening up, the 128 has a lot of grime & dirt around keyboard so will need cleaned properly etc.

Unfortunately as expected did not come with anything extra so Ill need to get a basic cartridge, does the same carrt work on both machines? I seem to remember reading the 64 and 128 had different revisions?
Title: Re: Where to start?

which email do I send pics of labels etc to?

is there a disassembly guide or is it straightforward enough?

where would the warranty label be (when you ask label intact?, is there a screw under the serial number etc)

At this topic we talked about the keyboard cleaning. (http://enterpriseforever.com/hardware/how-to-clean-the-enterprise/)

Yes the EP64 come with version 2.0 and EP128 with 2.1. But the 2.1 also work with EP64.

I sent PM to you.

It is very simple. In previous post I linked how to disassemble the keyboard.

On this photo (http://enterpriseforever.com/other-topics/how-to-clean-the-enterprise/?action=dlattach;attach=1014;image) are red marked the screws for the keyboard. You can see another 5 screws these needed to removed if you want completly disassemble the machine.
One at the corner of the Serial/Warranty label. I think voiding the warranty don't a big problem after 30 years :-) but the intact label are very rare todays. If your label intact then very carefully can blend up the corner of label for accessing the screw.

Quote

At the bottom of machine you see on the photo.

If all screws removed then can lift up the top part of case. Do it very carefully because the keyboard membrane connected to the motherboard! Can broke the connection trails! Firstly lift up the front (keyboard) part of the top, until you can access the membrane connection, then pull out from the motherboard connectors, then can fully remove the top part of case.

Do you tested the machines, keyboard fully working? Very common problem with the 30 years old membranes: it is start broke at the connection, then rows or columns of keys are dead. At this situation can be repaired by cutting broken few milimeters from the connection trails at the end.

The EP have a internal speaker, you can hear keyboard Click sound when pressing keys. (After the powerup wait few second to memory testing, more on 128K machine)
Then without display you can test the computer started, and most of keys working (not all generate sound).

Quote

Yes and also possible put other programs beside Basic for fill whole 64K.

Quote

Are totally common 3.5 jack audio cables. Any standard casette recorder can be used.
Remote controlling are optionaly for this needed a 2.5 jack cable. The original cable have one wire with 3.5 jacks and one with 2.5 jacks.
If you need I can send original cable.

I highly recommend my Quick RAM test, it is also include the WP 2.6
It is 16K, BASIC also 16K, then 32K remaining.
With my RAM test can put 32K SRAM chip to cartridge, then you got 32K memory expansion.

Other choice put another programs to this 32K, there is some for selection:
Other programing languages:
IS-FORTH 16K
IS-LISP 16K
HiSoft Pascal 32K

Assembler/Monitor/Disassembler: ASMON 32K

Cyruss Chess II 16K

(PS: I got the photos, thanks!)

basic + RAM test is good

other 32k

I assume I could load any of these via tape/disk also if required?

IS-forth & is-lisp would be my choice

I have just received the bits to build rgb cable so will do at the weekend as rf picture was very poor on my tv (but good enough to check functionality)
128 has a coup[le of keys stuck so disassembled keboard and cleaned it up(rubber membreane and general crap between keys)
keys are no loger stuck so hopeful that when I fire it up tonight it will be ok maybe...

Scanned manuals for the Enterprise versions:
IS-FORTH (http://enterprise.iko.hu/books/IS-FORTH.pdf)
IS-LISP (http://enterprise.iko.hu/books/IS-LISP_English.pdf)

And few weeks ago started a FORTH topic. (http://enterpriseforever.com/programming/forth/)

whoop!

Received the following in the mail today from the ebay seller (they found some bits to go with the machines)

Any idea if that is 2x basic carts? Why does one have no label? Is it a dev/early cart?

And importantly 1x copy of wizards lair which was written on these very 2 machines i now own!

I also bought from seller 1 of the development Tatung Einstein machines which they used to code games with. im hoping to find some source code on the disks for maybe wizards lair but also starquake!!!

Wow! It is near all missing accessories of your machines! (PSUs, cables still wanted)
The labeled cartridge is for EP64, other for EP128. Probably no label because cost reduction?
