T-shirt project
« on: 2008.March.18. 14:00:35 »
I'm looking for a high resolution (preferably vector scale) image of the "enterprise one two eight" and/or "enterprise sixty four" logo that is on the machine and boxes.

And: would anyone be interested in a nice t-shirt/poloshirt with the above?
(I'm not sure how copyright issues may prevent this, but I'm willing to facilitate in creating t-shirt/poloshirts for those interested - at least I'd like one for myself - yep I'm a true geek :))

I have the Enterprise Forever logo in svg. I think it is not hard to replace the forever word. I used an image (maybe cover of the manual) to make that, but I need to edit by hand, because the image was poor. I tried to make the logo as close to the original as possible.
And yes a t-shirt would be very cool! :-)

Update: I attached the logo. I had to find it ;-)

Do you know anything about the costs? Is it possible to make t-shirts with the Enterprise Forever logo too? ;-)
I think we have to collect how many shirts we need and then you can request a quote.
I can post in the Hungarian part to see how many people want shirts, if you want.

Well, maybe the "enterprise forever" is even better (not computer type specific), I forgot about that :)

cost depends on quality and number of orders.

a year ago I ordered a number of high quality polos for a different purpose. The company logo was embroidered on the chest, see this image:
http://flickr.com/photos/marcof/247292018/in/set-72157594145095041/

(obviously, there were adult sizes too)

that was about 15 euros excl 19% VAT (so euro 17,85 incl VAT) per Hanes or Fruit of the Loom polo in size XXL. This was for 5 identical shirts (same size, same design)

However, there's a starting fee of 40 euros for scanning the pattern into the embroidering machine, so that cost has to be added as well (this is a one-time startup fee, so future orders would only have the production cost), split over the total number of shirts (so if 10 shirts are ordered, the additional price/shirt would be 4 euros).

All in all, incl shipping a polo like this may end up costing about 25 euros. Which may be quite high for certain people?

Of course, I guess there are alternatives like cafepress.com which will probably be cheaper, but the logo won't be embroidered, but "glued" to the shirt.

And maybe the prices in hungary are better?

I'm open for alternatives, I'd be willing to facilitate in the above options (cafepress, embroidering), but others should check hungarian options of course :)

maybe it's a good idea anyway to have a "enterprise forever" store at cafepress. it may make the site some money to compensate hosting cost. cafepress makes also mugs, mousemats, you name it :)

I think the embroidered is more durable!

Maybe it would be cheaper if we order a few hundred? ;-) Do you know how many we have to order to get discount?

We should investigate that.

with the embroidery, I could check. I've ordered up to 40 shirts at once, but since the sizes (and also models - male/female/child) can vary, there is not a lot of discount.

I have checked the cafepress site, and for example a dark t-shirt, the base price is $18.99. This is quite a bit cheaper than the embroidered one, but of course the logo isn't embroidered, but printed on the shirt. Which will fade after time (of course, price is lower, so you can buy a new one ;-)
shipping internationally (cafepress is a US site) may be expensive, although from personal experience I can say it isn't too bad (usually around 15$ if I recall correctly)

the selection of products at cafepress is huge, from buttons to caps, mousemats, etc.

the EP forever site could start a cafepress shop there. You could add a bit to the base price, and use that margin for funding the site for instance.

here's more info:
http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/pricing_policy.aspx

some items at cafepress have bulk discounts by the way.

the EP forever site could start a cafepress shop there.
I'm not sure if our members would buy anything and there are already other ways to support the site (for example I can give webspace for the people who want to support the site with a little money).
In the past there was an idea to make online shop (like eBay) where the members could buy and sell EP stuffs, like IDE controller, EXDOS card, etc. but we are a small (but very enthusiastic) community and there is not any real demand to a site with a feature like that.

understood, just thinkingg aloud.

anyway, the offer for an embroidered shirt with EP forever logo still stands, let's investigate the interest so I can ask for a quote.

I think a polo shirt which is colored close to the enterprise gray with the logo on the chest would be very cool, and something you could wear to work as well :)

hmm, I see quite a bit activity about the Polo in the hungarian forum..

what's the general view? I notice some are asking for ep64 and 128 logos? and the cost is too high, and an alternative site??
online translators suck :)

Sorry, here is the update ;-)
Gafz knows someone who is in the t-shirt business. He is trying to get a quote from him.
The link I posted was an example to prove the t-shirt maker companies are really exist in Hungary ;-)

I asked there what are their opinions about adding this site's address below the logo?

well, maybe the design can be too crowded then.

an option is to have the logo on the chest and for instance the url high on the back
