Enterprise Computing International No. 1 (http://ep.homeserver.hu/PDF/ECI_No1.pdf)
Magazine with many-many interesting stuff!
Anybody know more about this magazine? It is have more releases?
-
that ECI magazine looks very interesting indeed. I'd like to see more as well.
-
I just scanned through the ECI magazine.
Did you notice the mention of the EGI? Enterprise Graphical Interface based on GEM?
Is it anywhere to be found?
-
Did you notice the mention of the EGI? Enterprise Graphical Interface based on GEM?
This is the most interesting question!
We previously heard about the EGI at the 1991, in a interview (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Dokumentacio/Cikkek/VTGe.htm) with the director of the Hungarian Enterprise Distribution.
He said: coming a new Enterprise, in a flat PC like house, with external keyboard, Hitachi Super Z80, onboard EXDOS, Midi interface, and HW network interface. The operating system is the EXOS 3.0, with a graphical user interface: Enterprise Graphical Interfacei, EGI. It is similar to GEM.
After many years, I thinked it is fake, because nobody see any of these fantastic things...
But now, after this magazine, I think, this is developements of the UK boys, and later come to the hungarian company, such as the 'Out of This World' released as Magicball...
I hope one of my english friends have any version of this very interesting program!

I found an "Eamon O'Leary" on linkedin.com: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/0/453/776
I am not 100% sure if this is the correct one, but looking where he came from (Cork university - which is in Ireland), it may even be that he was one of the editors of ECI magazine.
Of course, no contact details available, otherwise we could ask if there's more available. (and of course, there are probably a lot more Eamon O'Learys around :))
looking at the date of the magazine - feb 1989, it may well be that this was the first, but also last issue. enterprise was already liquidated and moved to hungary.
it would be interesting to see if there were prototypes of the enterprise 2 though.

I had heard that when Enterprise went bankrupt, they were trying to sell a computer like the Amstrad PCW. It would be based on the Enterprise, have disks and a printer and a monitor and be usable as a word processor, the same as the Amstrad PCW was. I never saw any evidence of this. That's just what I remember Tim Box telling me.
That Zzzip compiler was very clever. Very fast.

gflorez scanned and uploaded a few things for us. You can find them in the From_Spain folder of Downloads section (menu) and in this post.
Thanks gflorez!

Hello again.
I've scaned today the last documents that this web don't had.
One is the IS-DOS MANUAL 0.4 in english, an early version. (May be soon I'll have the real thing)
The other is a bad copy of the booklet of the IS-Lisp in English, but until recently I never had the software.
This is the end of the "Spanish Gold". (Is good that game?)

Having said I know nothing about ZEN on the Enterprise, I see this is Copyright Intelligent Software, written by MRL (of SET STATUS 42 fame!)

I also see but not noticed why MRL
Only the first "Notes on Enterprise version" pages are IS copyrighted, later the originaly Lynx manual attached.
Probably Martin Lea do the Enterprise adaptation? I guess if he got the original sources then about 2-3 day to do it! :-)

Yes, and it was quite late in IS's history - we were working on different things by then (me: TVC probably).

Hmm Martin Lea was the name of a former CEO at my workplace (Invitel). But I guess he is not the same person ...

Very big thanks for Werner Lindner for scanning these!
Now the EXDOS technical documentation (http://enterprise.iko.hu/technical.htm) (Preliminary version) near to complete! It is including the most important section: "EXDOS Unit Handler Specifications" which are needed for writing correct HDD/SDCrad drivers!
Documentation of the German hard disk project! (http://enterprise.iko.hu/technical/HDOS_1.1A.pdf) Including schematic. This attach a IBM XT controller card to the Enterprise. Very amazing!
Added ENTER-NEWS 88/1 issue (http://enterprise.iko.hu/magazines/ENTER-NEWS_88-1.pdf), now we have all ENTER-NEWS. (Werner told me the 88/2 are the last.)

Do you mean that existing drivers for SD and HDD were somewhat incorrect because of lack of information at that time when they were written?

Will be revised :-) Least problem at the disk change checking (I viewed the RAMDISK code for the start, it is don't check disk change :-) ), which is still waiting for implementing in the SD driver.
