Title: Enterprise at the retro fair Bochum
Post by: TomPhobos on 2013.September.23. 20:41:33
At the 7th September we had a Retro Fair in Bochum/Germany. As on every of the previous fairs we also had a little exhibition. At the last times we presented some exotic consoles. This time the slogan of the exhibition was "10 homecomputers that you possibly never played in your life"

As you know the Enterprise wasn't very successful in Germany, so beside of some japanese, french and britisch computers we decided that one of the systems should be an Enterprise-Setup. So we showed an Enterprise with EXDOS and a HxC Floppy Emulator and let the people play with it. And it was great. Some visitors knew the name and some adverts of the Enterprise, but until the exhibition they haven't seen an Enterprise in real life. It was great to talk with them and to see that they had much fun with it
I attached some photos of the setup (my "working setup" ;) )
If you would like to see photos of the other systems in the exhibition i can also post photos of them :)

It is very strange because Enterprise Computers Gmbh existed for many years, a German version of the Enterprise existed, too (beside the English version), etc
I always thought the Enterprise had a lot of German users

Yes, Enterprise Computers GmbH existed, but i think it was very small compared to Commodore and Atari. There were adverts and previews of the Enterprise in german magazines, but most of the people decided to buy either a Commodore, Atari or Amstrad/Schneider CPC. The rest was splitted into the other systems, where Spectrums, Apples and even TI/99s were more sold in Germany than Enterprises. So some people read abot the Enterprise in magazines, were impressed by the specs, but had never seen an Enterprise for sale in the shops.

OK, and here are the photos of the other systems in the exhibition :)

Wow, some obscure ones there, very interesting! I remember the Dragon, but the others...

To tell the truth, I haven't heard about the Dragon and the other computers, either... They might be interesting machines.

But not as interesting as the Enterprise! :)

That was a very good exhibition! Of course, not just because of the Enterprise ;-)

The FM Towns and the X68000 are my favourites there, apart from the EP of course... :) I'd love to get an X68000, but you just don't see them in the UK. I don't think I've ever seen one on ebay!! A very cool Japanese computer...

The worrying thing is I managed to identify most of the machines in the first exhibition photo just by the shape and size (Dragon and Excelvision), colour and tape recorder (VZ300) and back (X68000). Also correctly found the Sord M5 and VG5000 in the overview photos.

I guess it also helps that I also own 7 out of those 10 machines myself - I don't own a TO9 (I own a Dutch TO7, Standard French MO5 and Italian Olivetti Clone MO6 though), A Sord M5 (Have been after one with game controllers, but have been unlucky) or a FM Towns UX (I'd like a FM Towns Marty though).

You seem to have a nice collection there.

Yeah, that's not bad! The most unusual machines I have apart from the Enterprise is an Oric Atmos and an Atari TT. Otherwise it's pretty mainstream old computers. The Atari ST has to be the machine I am most fond of though... lovely 68000. :)
