I wonder how did you get those magazines ?
First pack come from Ebay with a big Enterprise pack. Then I found the editor of the magazines on the net :-)
He found some more issues at the loft and send to me.

About the translation. Maybe it's a good idea that I open a new post and that I just posts some chapters now and then.. so in the end we have everything in English.
New topic opened :-)
I have to say, that it seems that all small magazines from a small club. So I don't know if it make sense to translate all the articles or just the once that are Enterprise related.
If possible want to all in English
Also will be interesting the life in Enterprise Club at other country, and comparing with our experience.

Where is the link with the original magazines ?

In front of you lies the February number of the DEUG (Dutch enterprise users Group) from 1987. It is the second number that the new editor did create for you guys. There were a lot of nice responses on the first magazine! We are very happy with that but we would like to see responses in the form of articles. Of course writing articles is a task that cost a lot of time, the editor also has trouble with it especially to write something sensible and you don't want to write something that everyone already knows. What you see as ' logical ' or ' normal ' is for others very complex. The different is that someone is an expert and others not. But do not hesitate to send any questions, though they seem unimportant, it's better to share. We have enough EXPERTS to answer them. In the section 'ENTER and RETURN' you can see the incoming questions.
There are a lot of Enterprise users that still have to lean BASIC. You cannot say to those people, simply “Hey! you can write a driver for that just in GEN” This was something I heard someone saying on an Enterprise User Day. So you cannot say that PEEK is simple for beginners. Words like, Allocate, bugs, ram segments, system- extensions and ESCAPE-sequences are not easy to understand for beginners. So what I want to say in this context is: Please if you send some article to me be aware that you write it so that it makes sense for everyone. Don’t be afraid to write something. You can simple write something about your Enterprise. Tell us what you are doing with your machine. What you like or dislike. Those personal stories can be find in the section ‘My Enterprise’
It’s also nice if your send drawings or nice pictures that are Enterprise related. If it is very nice we can decide to publish it on the front- cover.
You can still send the articles for the upcoming number of APRIL or give those to me at the user day on 14 March 1987. Please, when you send something to me do it on a TAPE or a Floppy. It helps us to have it in a digital format and besides that we don’t like to type listings in manually. Beside that Computers are invented for that!

ENTER AND RETURN
This is the first time we present the category “Questions and Answers” in ENTERFACE. In this section we will ask our readers to help other readers. If we know the answer we will of course reply directly.
QUESTION:
I have IS-DOS but I would like to have CP/M. Where can I get it ?
ANSWER:
IS-DOS is a sub- version from CP/M. In fact it is CP/M 80 version 2.2. The developers from IS (Intelligent Software) created their own version, with more options/possibilities and more user friendly. The command structure and command language looks a bit like IBM but they are using subroutines from CP/M. The method used to save something to disc is the same compare to the IBM. This is also the reason we can read IBM discs without problems. It is possible to read a text file or ASCII-listing without conversion on the Enterprise. But of course programs are no exchangeable.
QUESTION:
When I buy a memory expansion can I use this to open more graphical screens ? For example with interlace?
ANSWER:
If you own a 64k machine you have improvements. But if you have 128k or more than it is not usable as video memory. The reason for this is that the video-chip, called ‘NICK’ can’t reserve more than 64k at once.
QUESTION:
I’m looking already for several months for a MIDI-INTERFACE for the ENTERPRISE. Is there someone that can create one for me ? I want to create software for it.
ANSWER:
It is not possible to connect a MIDI interface directly to the ENTERPRISE. The reason is that MIDI works on 31,25 kBAUD. This is not available on the ENTERPISE computer. However maybe it is possible to solve this in software. We found some useful information in magazine ‘ELEKTUUR’ (January 1986 page 60) here you can found also all codes for the DX7 synthesizer.

Great! Thanks! :smt038

Thanks. They later did a two issues article about Enterprise and Midi. But we only have the first.....
-
I know .. it became time for the next translation .. sorry .. that you have to keep so long ;)
Maybe this week I can do some ;)
-
Edoz, could you please write your posts both in English and in Dutch? Some sentences in Dutch wouldn't disturb anybody here, I think. I would be interested in reading them in both languages.
-
I have scanned some of the missing magazines from the Netherlands!
-
Thanks!!!
-
Great!
-
please write here if somebody found something interesting

I have a few bigger pdf scans than allowed (up to 15 mB). Like a complete chip-magazine (105 pages of Enterprise programming). Is there a simple way to get them on the forum?
Also two EUG magazines from 1988.

:) pdf-resize :)

Send to me, for example on Dropbox, and I will upload to my page (http://enterprise.iko.hu/).

I'm interested on the External Joystick Driver on the eug_may_jun_1988 issue.
Can be an easy way to move the editor cursor with a mouse connected to a EnterMice in joystick mode.
-
Here is the "External Joystick Driver", from Anders Nielsen, Denmark.
The basic listing to create it and the driver itself.

Do you know date for the Enterface 1.0? It is talking about a meeting(???) at 1985 september 28. Then it is release at August/September?
-
Do you know date for the Enterface 1.0?
I really don't know exactly. As far as I know it is the first publication of the Dutch user group back then, but there is no release date mentioned. There are not to many Dutch members on this forum, but maybe someone else reads this and does know when this was published.
-
This 1.0 magazine number seems to me like a compilation of letters from members just when DEUG was created. Even it has the official advert!
On page 17, Robin Ketelaars(already known on this web page) put the date of his letter: Delft, 17 july 1985.

hm many type-ins... sad, nobody will type in them
there are machine code programs too
-
You can do easily with OCR(optical character recognition). PDF-Exange, a free PDF viewer, scans the document(when graphic) and adds a text layer. Then you can copy and paste it to a text editor.
Once in a file it can be loaded on the emulator. I have done this with the joystick driver above.
As I don't remember the way to load a basic program in Ascii, I've done a program that reads the file and prints the lines on screen, then I've pressed Enter over them....

More simple :-) Just simple LOAD command.
-
Then it don't worked, may be some unknown PC characters for the Basic Editor gave me error.
-
Control codes, line feed and so.

Here you have my bad translation of the mentioned first part of the MIDI article.
In it the authors mention a MIDI.BAS demo of the MIDI approach. But there is no such program in the magazine.
Is for that I think that a tape or disc companion came with the Enterface issues. On some of them there is a list of published listings.
-
midi hw is not commonly used here, but if we can read midi files - it can be good
-
I think that the Enterprise is not so powerful to manage an effects full loaded Midi song, mainly because its Serial port is software driven. But this has to be probed practically, because on many other aspects it has surprised us. Before reading this article I didn't know that the Enterprise serial port was able to reach 31250 baud/sec....
This approach can have some incompatibility with EnterMice, as the RTS line at the Serial port is also used for mouse comunication, theoretically only while a mouse channel is open.
I still have not played with this project because is somewhat incomplete. But although incomplete, I think there is sufficient information to make a little Basic program to test some notes.
-
I will try to connect to Rene ter Horst who wrote the article and find out if he has some material to add.
-
I already contacted him, but he lost that material long ago....

But exist a hw midi interface. (http://ep128.hu/Album/Pic/MIDI_02.jpg)

But exist a hw midi interface. (http://ep128.hu/Album/Pic/MIDI_02.jpg)
But , how about the schematics and the ROM? are they accessible?
I have a MIDI keyboard and Yamaha DB50XG and DB60XG (http://www.sdiy.info/w/Yamaha_DB50XG) boards.
I like to connect things together.... I am not a piano player, only an aficionado to electronic music, for me MIDI is very much like robotics.
