Atari dumped games
« on: 2014.November.05. 11:02:42 »
Nothing to do with the Enterprise but everything to do with the home computer/games console market collapse of 1983 with which we are all familiar...apparently in 1983 Atari dumped a load of unsold games cartridges in a desert landfill, and last year they were all dug up again! They are now appearing on US eBay:

The lot of unsold SZJA 88' programs and Spectrum emulators where dumped? :-)

Historical background: at 1991 interview with the director of the Hungarian Enterprise distribution. He is say: many interesting new things are exist for the Enterprise, hard disk, midi interface, VGA adapter, etc...
But don't sell anything new items, because the stores full of unsold Spectrum Emulators and SZJA 88' programs...
Spectrum Emulator have a lot of sw and hw bugs (later I do bugfixed version), SZJA 88' are personal tax calculator for year 1988... ...but the tax rules changed at every years...

What a "sane" thing: not to do more business with items probably would have been sold much better (than SZJA'88 ..) just because they have old and not so much wanted items cannot be sold. But I am curious now: Spectrum emulators are really wanted I guess, why were hard to sell them? Because of the so many bugs, price, or another reasons? I can imagine though why SZJA'88 is not sold to well :)

Spectrum emulator had cost 7700 HUF (6300 HUF without Bus Bridge) when you could buy an EP128 by 11 900 HUF :D
I guess the cost of a real speccy was about 9000 HUF :D

And the review in Spectrum Világ wrote the problems:
-external joysticks cannot be used
-EXDOS cannot be used
-machine cannot be used as Enterprise when the emulator is connected
-many compatibility problems with games
After reading these, who wants to buy one?

Ok-ok :) I am just wondering if it was cheaper to also by ZX Spectrum :) Since number of softwares for EP was low compared to Speccy. Thus, making it compatible with it at some level (even with bugs) may worth, however not for this price, probably!
