We are going to make a little birthday party in Budapest.
Are there any international members who are interested in it?
-
A little far, but thanks for the invitation :)
-
Why? There is a Warsawa Budapest direct flight.
-
I'm still hoping to be there. I had a bit of a panic yesterday when I discovered my passport had expired but hopefully will be able to renew "on the spot" tomorrow by going to the passport office in person, but I'm not going to book flights etc. until I definitely have the passport done!
-
Better we do the party here in Spain...
Is a joke, Budapest is too far for me.
But please post here the details of the meeting.
-
Budapest, Lipótvár street 9/A (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lip%C3%B3tv%C3%A1r+u.+9a,+Budapest,+1141+Hungary/@47.5250555,19.1275439,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x4741db6a93ffa3af:0xebc282f9765197ab), it is my workplace (IKO Informatika). Start at 15:00 (local time :-) ).
Previously I thought of another place where we have lots of Spectrum-Enterprise events. But this week I got the information: renovation started, and will not finished until 16 May :-(
Then I started the emergency plan, and my boss agreed to have the birthday party in our office. (He also started the computing with the Enterprise :-) )

Dear Mr. Tanner,
You don't need passport to come Hungary neither then visa. That time is ended in 2006. We are in the European Union, you can use your personal ID card to travel between the cities of the European Union. I know what I am saying, because I travel a lot, last year I flew 12 times in Central EU (or double, because I had to fly back as well).
So, if you have a valid drivers license, or personal ID card, then you are good to travel to Hungary.
-
Hi Tuby128, thanks for that, you may well be correct, but I am not brave enough to pay for a flight and try it! Last time I travelled to mainland Europe, several years ago now, I still had to show my passport briefly but it was not studied, but maybe things have changed. We don't have ID cards in the UK and older driving licences (like mine) do not have a photo so they are not a very good proof of ID!
-
I think you will find that a new rule has come into force, with UK Immigration, where all passports are now checked when leaving and entering the UK.
-
Dear Mr. Tanner,
you mean you don't have such a thing like this:
In Hungary we have a Personal ID card, a home adress card which comes from the local office, than most of us has a driver's license, national health insurace card, and a national tax number card. And earlier as I was a student, I had a student card as well. So with my credit cards I have at least 10 card in my wallet.
We have plastic card since 1998. That time the teenagers with age of 14 got this card, and with the time every passport like ID card was changed to plastic. The funny thing is, I found my grand-grandpa's ID "book" from 1900, there was no photo inside, only a description how he looks like.
-
No we don't have a card like that - we were going to once but the plans were dropped, partly because every citizen was going to be forced to pay £70+ for one. Modern driving licences have a picture card similar to that but they have only been around for a few years. Students often have a similar photo card but it is a long time since I was a student!
-
In HU we pay 4 GBP for a ID card. For a driver's license 10GBP (under age of 40 every ten years has to renewed).
I don't see why the UK government determined this 70 GBP. It's indeed too expensive.
-
It seems, that I can come, too :) I have to check some things, but tomorrow I will know it 100% for sure.
-
Great!
-
I am afraid that everybody should wear some kind of table with name (also/only nick) on it, since it would be hard to realize who is who :-P
-
Or come with Enterprise Club card :-D (http://gafz.enterpriseforever.com/Galery/Egyebek/Picture/Klubtagsagi1993.jpg)
-
Or come with Enterprise Club card :-D (http://gafz.enterpriseforever.com/Galery/Egyebek/Picture/Klubtagsagi1993.jpg)
Eh good for you that you have one :) Btw little off-topic, but nice story: my wife's cousin had Enterprise and wanted to be a member of some kind of EP club (I am not sure what kind of club was it). My wife was quite young back to then, and thought that any piece of paper is good to practice drawing. And it was some kind of paper should be filled to join or something like this. According to the "family story" his cousin was never more nervous before when he realized that the paper had been messed up ...
-
The nickname is not enough, because most people are bad with names.
I think the best solution would be a hanging namecard holder with the nickname and EP4EVER avatar. Like this, but not landscape orientation, portrait is better.
An additionally problem can be, people like to use the real name when talking with each other.
Imagine a situation, a forum member with name Kljt243. And then the conversation.
- Hey Kay-El-J-Tee two-four-three (with hungarian pronaunciation: Kéjeldzsítí-tú-fór-trí), how are you?
-

:) That's funny enough, indeed. But btw even at my workplace and among friends they call me "LGB" (and for sure LGB is from my name, and not Lesbian-Gay-Bisex as someone suggested, eh) and not "Gabor" so I am more or less OK with that since "some" years :)
-
Dear Mr. Tanner,
Is your passport ready? Have you made a flight book already?
-
Yes passport ok now thanks, haven't yet booked flights but will today or tomorrow. Unfortunately I think I have the choice of a 3 hour drive to London for a direct flight, or more local airport but change flights somewhere :(
-
Dear Mr. Tanner,
I think flight change is not a problem. You only have to get up earlier. The duty free shops of airports are spectacular, observing can take a lot of time. You can use internet and post some comments here during the waiting as well.
One option is that you can leave your car on the airport, it cost probably no end of money.
But there are small companys which take your car for parking, and take you to the airport with another car. So you get a surveillanced parking place cheap far away from the Airport. I don't know how this service called in UK.
-

Or just parked in a back street without you knowing!
-
No! Please don't be so negativ. They parking the cars on a guraded backyard. I have seen it many times. It is good, really!
-
Dear Mr. Tanner,
Do you have any news about your flight to Budapest on Saturday?
-
Yes I have booked now. Arriving in Budapest at 14:00 on Friday, leaving at 18:35 on Monday. Staying at Hotel Lucky (http://www.hotellucky.hu/index_elemei/fotogaleria.html) just around the corner from the party!
-
Great news! :ds_icon_cheesygrin:

Mr. Tanner, it wasn't a good idea to share the name of the hotel where you are going to stay, you will have a crowd (fans) under your window wanting you to make a new IS-BASIC.
Anyway, have you arranged the hotel yourself? Did they speaking English or you made the booking via online?

At least I already have the odd idea to bring a BASIC cartridge to be signed :)

I arranged online - it was part of a flight+hotel deal. I must admit I assumed most hotels in Budapest would be able to speak enough English for me to get by! :???:
-
Type :UK at the reception :-D

Great news!! :) So it will be a real international meeting in beautiful Budapest! :)
I will already arrive at thursday and leave sunday evening, as I want to use this weekend for sightseeing as well (haven't been in Budapest since 24 years :P ).
-
Another great news!
You bring a new SymbOS build to the party? :-)
-
Another great news!
You bring a new SymbOS build to the party? :-)
I will bring the actual W.I.P. 3.0 version. Is someone interested in a demonstration of the MSX ethernet card? In this case I can bring a small MSX (called "OCM") + the Wiznet W5100 based ethernet card, which is the small brother of the W5300, on which Bruce is working. But I would need a VGA monitor and an ethernet connection then.
-
But I would need a VGA monitor and an ethernet connection then.
Don't problem! I think will be great to see what coming to the EP!
-
Please I want video of that...
-
Don't problem! I think will be great to see what coming to the EP!
Great, do you have a PS/2 keyboard, too? :) (if not, no problem)
@Gflorez: I will take my camera to Budapest of course! :P Somehow I miss the time at RetroEuskal/EuskalEncounter in Spain...
-
Keyboard is no problem either :-)
-
So, Mr. Tanner and Prodatron are coming, that is great! :smt041
Is anyone else coming from abroad?
-
Mr. Tanner,
do you own an Enterprise computer?
-
Yes, Bruce has one EP128 and one EP64 and original floppy unit with built in EXDOS.
-
With a lotharek SD card floppy emulator (http://lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=18) as drive B: :)
-
Welcome to Hungary Mr. Tanner!
I hope your flight was comfortable, and the stewardeses were beautiful and kind to you!
I have good news for you: Recently I read an article about the internet capabilities in the hungarian accommodations. We are in the third place in the European survey. (Better than the UK or Germany) That means, today afternoon you can probably read my post.
The boys speaking right now about the lot of refreshment drink, which are already ordered, and they made a public notice to bring Quickshot external joysticks as much as they can.
Anyway, what did you bring with?
Unfortunately I cannot take part at this event, because I was unable to arrange my fligt to Budapest because of my work. But, you will meet a lot of interesting people, who very pleased to meet with you.
If you need a good translator, I can recommend Szipucsu (forname: Tamash). He speaks English very well!
Have a nice stay in our beautyful country!
-
Thank you Tuby128, I have just arrived and indeed my hotel has working wifi and you are right - it is not at all certain that a UK hotel would. My email doesn't work but this forum does! :ds_icon_cheesygrin: I'm sorry you are unable to make it. I am very much looking forward to meeting as many EP people as possible and of course seeing a little bit of Hungary while I am here.
If anyone thinking about refreshments reads this can I just mention that I am vegetarian  I hope that doesn't spoil any plans!
-
On the party free wifi will be available :-)
-

I am just thinking if plastic used for the EP case contains any non-vegetarian friendly ingredients :)
-

 I've never known plastic not to be vegetarian-friendly but there are limts to what you can avoid...glue sometimes isn't and the leather seats in the aeroplanes I flew in to get here certainly were not!
-
Mr. Tanner, what is the weather right now where you are. Looks good for the tomorrow meeting?
Are you going to go somewhere at evening? The inner city is always sight-worthy. Especially the riverside of the Danube (in hungarian: Duna) and the hills on the other side of the river (called Buda). When the sun is shining at dawn, and man traveling the riverside with tram on the Buda side, the Pest side is beautiful. We have 9 bridge in Budapest. 1 of them called Chain bridge, it was made from 1839-1849. It was rebuilt two times after the two World Wars. The original plans stayed, it was only made stronger.
-
Almost forget, the film SPY GAME was made in Budapest 15 years ago. Starring: Redford and Pitt. You can see this video how beautiful the buildings in Budapest:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zrr-9gpQnJY
... and what happens when someone throws a seat from the rooftop.
-
And an introdution in english:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs_w9cwJ1Fg
-
I can't watch videos at the moment :( the hotel wifi is rather slow and on-and-off. I am told the weather forecast is not good but it is dry at the moment and warmer than England. :) I am here until Monday evening but I have not made any plans for anything - I will see what the days bring! Thank you for the tips - I do hope to go to the river at some point.
-
This big silence, noone comes to post in the forum right now. They are probably preparing or driving, traveling or walking to the Enterprise Headquarters at Budapest.
It starts at 3:00 PM Central European Time.
-
I will arrive in a few minutes :)
-
The Celebration of the 30th birthday of the Enterprise 128 has begun in Budapest.
-
Am I the only one who interest what is happening right now at this event?
I hope it will be a little bit interactive.
-
No. I'm interesting also.
-
Photos will be needed :)
-
I have already sent a message to my contact person, to remind the people there, we would like to have occasionally some information, what is happening there right now.
-
No sign of life from there.
There is an old Hungarian rule: "Do not take phone or open the entrance door if you have guests. It is impolite."
-
It interesting for me too. Make
some many photos.:)
-
Zozo wrote the other day, there is a free WIFI az the party. A hardly belive that. The party is almost ended, and noone has been posted a message yet.
I think a spectacular Enterprise 128 opened a gate to the binary world, and everybody went to the other side.
-
Put some video, please.
-
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for such a a warm welcome and interesting evening, and for organising and coming to the pary. Please could someone translate and post this in the Hungarian forum too, thank you!
-
Zozo thanks to the organization, it was a very cool party! :-)
Sorry for the amateur camera management ...

Hopefully both of you from abroad had nice time. I can _only_ speak for myself of course, but I am always nervous when I try to speak in English and _probably_ others feel about the same way, so you (you as plural here - with Prodatron) could not understand every conversation we had :( Also there were some odd points when I could not understand something, even after the second or third try
-
Some photo... :-)
-
Thanks to Zozo to organizing this fantastic party, and thanks to Prodatron and to Bruce to visit us in Hungary! And thanks to Matusa István for the surprise! It was a great event for me, I've really enjoyed every minute of it, we have seen a lot of interesting and rare things, and great people.
set status 42 :-)
-
Some photo... :-)
On the second photo from the top you see the prototype of the new Enterprise! Only 4 exist in the world!
-
Can someone tell me please who are the red point selected two man on the following picture? And wo is the long haired man in the background?
-
Very big thanks for Bruce and Prodatron! This was the first international Enterprise party at Budapest, but I think it is also first in the whole Enterprise history!
And special thanks to Werner for sending the rare harware items including the one of the prototype Model 911 machine!
-
A little Babel full of estrange but interesting people and devices. I don't know who of the two groups have more stored knowledge....
I can see some artefacts from Germany. I'm very interested on that Magyar Midi interface cartridge....
-
That was a very very nice meeting! It was so cool to meet you guys behind the Nicknames in reality! :) Thanks so much to Zozosoft for organising it! We had a lot of very interesting talks! For me as a newbie it was impressive to see all this stuff on the EP for the first time in live. And you really have very interesting picture slide shows in a great quality! :D Thanks for all, that was cool, I have to sort my pictures when I am back home tomorrow :)
-
Thank you very much Zozo for organizing this great session, and thank you very much Prodatron, and Bruce to visit us, I enjoyed the talks.
-

Too many wires. :D

-
Has Mr. Tanner signatured more cartridge?
I don't know if he signed cartridges but he signed some Hungarian (IS-Basic) User Manuals ("Felhasználói kézikönyv"), mine as well, and the 30th anniversary Enterpress newspapers, too - mine as well. He must have got very tired because of the constant requests for signing. :D
Some of us asked also Prodatron to sign their Enterpress newspapers, too
-
Was the Enterpress fully Hungarian or contained some English written articles?
What is Mr. Matusa said, how and where can we subscribe for the 2015 Enterpress newspaper?
I was completly amazed as I saw the color cover of the paper.
-
Was the Enterpress fully Hungarian or contained some English written articles?
Entirely Hungarian.
On the last page there are 4 lines in English too, thanking the Enterprise programmers and developers for their work.
What is Mr. Matusa said, how and where can we subscribe for the 2015 Enterpress newspaper?
According to the paper enterpress.news.hu (http://enterpress.news.hu/) will be available soon and a longer version of the current anniversary edition will be available to download in PDF format, and the further issues will be available on that webpage as well.
I was completly amazed as I saw the color cover of the paper.
Me too!

I see no external joy connected to the computers. That means you haven't played. I assume you bored szipucsu. Next time I will go, and we can make a multiplayer game battle in Wriggler!
-
This way off topic, but several of my Hungarian friends have suggested I visit the Chain Bridge, which I am going to do today. I thought they might like to see England's "chain bridge" - the Clifton Suspension Bridge - very similar construction (but a little higher up!). Started in 1829 but not finished until 1864.

I find it amazing, that time the mankind haven't had compact strong power machnines, only steam machines, thus the most work made by hand. That's why took it so long to build up such huge "monument". Was this Clifton bridge rebuilt after the war, or wasn't damaged?

I think it escaped damage - it is on the edge of a minor city (Bristol) not in the centre of the capital - unlucky for your Chain Bridge. :( They say 90% of the iron of Clifton Bridge is still original. I was surprised at how similar they are!

Do you see the IS-Basic cartridge? Don't you? This reminds us the time when Enterprise hasn't had Basic interpreter, and Mr. Tanner came, and he realised, an IS-BASIC interpreter needed in the left empty slot. So he made one!
-
Happy birthday Enterprise! It looks you had a great party!
-
Do you see the IS-Basic cartridge? Don't you?
At the version 1.x no cartridge, everything in the onboard ROM! When the code will come too big, then parts of the BASIC went to the cartridge (but lot of parts remain at the segment 01h). Then some free space remain in EXOS ROM, then added the WP and the ENTERPRISE starting screen (these are not in version 1.x).

I like these pictures with Bruce!! :)

Some little corrections:
"Videotron TVC Computer"
Right name: Videoton TV Computer, shortly Videoton TVC or just TVC.
"So this is probably one of the only existing boards ever."
One of the four existing boards.
"Zozosofts expansion board nearly fully equipped: a "MotherX4" for the Enterprise!"
Not my :-) The collection come from Moldani. And produced by Gyula Mészáros (he is also on the party, and talked with you)

"Bruce is demonstrating, that his IS-Basic supports 1024KB and more"
More important point: is a easter egg in the EXOS, if you set the STATUS variable to 42 then the programmers initials displayed at the status line. Bruce point to BT :-)
And why 42? I already asked Bruce: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
"Yes you are quite right 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything from The Hithiker's Guide!"
:-D

Also a bit funny story in relation of CPC/EP/SymbOS, that when I wanted to port SymbOS for EP, without the sources, I saved the memory content running SymbOS on a CPC emulator, and loaded into my EP emulator with some "hacks", till it started to work, just no disk I/O access :-P Of course it is not how SymbOS must be ported, but at source code level, what you did, fortunately! :) I still have the hope that my work was "partly important" at least to attract your attention to start a real port :-) And hopefully you didn't regret it that you did and worked with the EP too :)
-
@LGB: Your way was the most crazy way ever, how someone FORCED me to port SymbOS on a new platform
I couldn't believe it, when you suddenly got a "hack" of SymbOS working on the EP :D So I had no other choice than porting SymbOS to this wonderful Z80 machine in the regular way :D And thanks to the help of you, Zozo and the EP scene it was possible :)
@Zozo: Thanks a lot for the corrections! :)

Ok, my previous post was not to force (again, hehe) you to say wow how "smart" I was, just some CPC/EP connection again what was mentioned :) And actually my "port" was not usable on "normal" EP yet, because of some emu hacks needed, which should have been killed out slowly with modifying the in-memory image loaded to the EP emu. So really it was only for forcing purposes :D
But some more serious and not so much off-topic: it seems I missed the FPGA-MSX/Network/SymbOS demonstration, all I know that (as far as I could hear) there was some problem to manage to use the Network. What was that exactly?

Yes, and that worked out perfectly! :D

Network was running fine, at least NSLOOKUP.COM worked in SymShell. But the current version of Telnet ("SymTel") required a hardcompiled DNS-server address, and I didnt find the time to change it for Zozos office router. I am in the middle of developing the Network Daemon, so next year on the meeting it's not a problem :P

Well, but why didn't you resolve the name eg on a PC (or with the nslookup tool on SymbOS?) to get an IPv4 address and use that for SymTel then? :) Or SymTel only accepts DNS name and not IP address as a target to connect to? Ehh, someone should have implemented a DNS server connected to the LAN (with the desired IP SymbOS wanted) so SymbOS could use it then. Now I feel bad I haven't noticed the event so I could at least try to find some solution (the success couldn't be sure even then, of course ...).

Why not asked me for change the router address?

Eh, I would not choose the most simple solution either, good spot :-P

I was just reading this topic, and came something to my mind.
The 30th anniversary event happened in 2015. Now as I write this, it is 2024, so next year we are going to have the 40th birthday of Enterprise.
It is time to prepare some new hardware - the dedicated FPGA Enterprise would be for example a good aim, even if it is not 100% compatible yet.
And I am also preparing a new young generation Enterprise owners in my family, and show how to handle the good old EP, even if they cannot read and write yet. :D

Phew, sometimes it's crazy how time is passing.
It would be nice to meet in Budapest again! :)
