KB Membrane Fix?
« on: 2020.January.19. 22:48:34 »
Some keys in my E64's keyboard stop registering inputs. It seems that the membrane is defective. I found replacements online, but the prices are quite high! I wonder if there's a way to fix the one I have without the need for a new replacement? Any ideas please?

Thank you.

Hi!
Usually, old membranes have cracks near the end of ribbons.
You can try to carefully cut off damaged area.

It is usually broken at the motherboard connection. Cut the broken part (few mm), and it will start working again :-)
Repeat it when broken again... problem will come when the connecting tail becomes too short to be plugged in...
In this case build an expansion cable.
Membrane connectors:
Original types: MOLEX 5229-08CPB, 5229-10CPB
Chinese alternatives: CONNFLY DS1020-08ST1D, DS1020-10ST1D
At the motherboard connection I use Preci-Dip pin headers.
