Title: New keyboard membranes
Post by: Zozosoft on 2007.June.21. 00:06:55
getting a replacement membrane (which looks pretty much impossible !).
Yes, it is near to impossible :-( (http://www.rwapsoftware.co.uk/Enterprise_128_membranes.html)

It depends of the number requested.  :)
These guys (http://www.ttklavesnice.cz) make batches of ZX Spectrum membranes for the Czech ZX maniacs, so why not order a boxful of Enterprise ones from them?  ;-)

How many is the minimum?

I don't know, but one ZX guy told me he thought it was be at least 50 pcs. Just ask them: ttklavesnice.cz (http://www.ttklavesnice.cz/en/15_suggestions-membrane-switches-inquiry-order.php).
Warning: this is only a guess - if you order, say, 50 membranes, the price could start, if you're lucky, at 4000 HUF per piece.

I have found an alternative manufacturer for Keyboard membranes who seem to offer fairly good value - I am willing to speak to them about getting new keyboard membranes made for the Enterprise 128 (if someone can send me an existing membrane (working or not!) - they will need to know how long the tails need to be.

Based on other quotes, taking into account tooling costs and the investment required, we would probably be able to offer replacement membranes at around £25 each (based on getting an initial batch of 50 made).

Is there sufficient interest in getting these made?  If so, email us, or leave a message on our guestbook at:

This is good for you? I can measure the original size of the connecting part from working one.

As an early Christmas present, new Keyboard Membranes for the Enterprise 64 and 128 (same membrane!) are now on order with the factory and should be ready for shipping by 22nd December.

Cost if you pre-order is £22 per membrane + shipping (£2.50 within the UK, £2.80 to Europe).

Obviously this has been another major investment by us for the retro computer community, so we would appreciate it if people wish to place a pre-order.

Stocks are limited (we have only ordered 50 membranes).

Please pre-order via SellMyRetro - the trading website for retro computers (http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/1188) :)

That is indeed good news, as I was concerned there may be an issue, without me having an Enterprise to try it on!

I think it is a good idea because the original ones will get older (now about 30 years old!), they can be broken even if they are not used.
Checking the machine - working. Checking it again after a few months: many keys do not work... :-(
So replacements always needed!

Your membranes work very well!

@rwap

Definately!!  I have had 2 from you recently and I think I could probably
do with another VERY soon.

My EP64 has a nice new one but the EP128 still has the original....

Well, here we are a couple of years later, and I have just run out of stock of the membranes - I sold a total of 75 membranes, mainly to mainland Europe, but some to the UK and even Canada

The question is - do I take the risk of another production run - and if so, how many?

Another 25 would push the end price up which no-one likes, but if I ordered 50, the end price could remain the same (£25 on sellmyretro)...

But would I ever sell 50?

I think 50 can be sold, i would buy 2. :-)

Hi Rich,

You beat me to it!

If you get any more done then I would probably take another 2 as spares.

Thanks

At the moment, these are low on my priorirty list to get made - I have sold 125 membranes - not sure how many Enterprises there are left out there to fix!
