Same topic exist in the hungarian forum, but we want to know the details of the non hungarian configurations.
Which Enterprise hardwares do you have? When you buy these things? What is the s/n of your Enterprise? And etc. :)
-
In my family, my father bought the first Enterprise 128K, in May of 1989. This german version of EP.
In September I strated learning in programmer school. Few months later we bougth second EP128 for me.
Because we not have disk controller, I used the Enterprise network for software developing, I compiled the program in the first machine to NET:, and the second machine loaded it, this is many times faster than the tape :)
We don't found EXDOS card in the official shops :(
In 1991 purchased the first EXDOS card, this is one of the hungarian Exdos clones. This is Microteam type card, contains 512K memory extension, and 3 socket for ROM extensions. (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/EXDOS_Microteam-klon_Meszaros~1.jpg) The first floppy drive is Teac 5.25"/720K, few months later the second drive is NEC 3.5"/720K (but this is very special drive, can format the disk up to 90 tracks :) )
In 1992 come the second EXDOS card, same type, with same Teac drive.
In this time we bought SMD Team's Turbo Cards, and make 4/6 Mhz (switchable) machines :)
I bought a not working machine in the EP club, and repaired it, and extend the internal memory up to 320K (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/320+128-3.jpg).
I used this machine for developing hw tweaks, this is the first 7.12Mhz EP (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/320+128-2.jpg) in the world :) after this, I tweaked the two main machines to 4/6/7.12 Mhz. The first machine memory extended to 704K (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/512ext1.jpg) (+512K on the Microteam EXDOS).
The EXDOS cards tweaked for handling HD floppy drives&disks. (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/Turbo-EXDOS~3.jpg)
About the last ten years, I collected 5 other EP128 :)
Now I have these serial numbers:
009007
04380
024487
019565
025525
014900
02944 (not working, possible Nick error :( )
020169 (not working, many missing components :( )
Other hardwares: 2 BUS extender card (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/BuszBovito~1.jpg)s, Real Time Clock card (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/Clockcard.jpg), EPROM/SRAM extension card, RS232 port card (for mouse) (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/Serialcard.jpg), ZX Spectrum Emulator (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/SpectrumEmu-ISS3~1.jpg), parallel port connected Eprom programer
And my own cards: prototype SIMM RAM interface (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/IM000747.jpg) :)
Prototype 512K FLASH ROM card (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/FLASH01.jpg)
And the most important: The IDE controller card (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/IDE02.jpg)
-
I have two Enterprise 128. Both are german version.
The second one was used in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, I have got this machine from my friend last year. I use this EP todays, because my first EP's keyboard is not very good (I have problems with internal joy, and ENTER).
I have an original EXDOS card (http://www.freeweb.hu/povi/exdos2.jpg), with EXDOS 1.0.
I have made a color composite video output for the EP, so now I can use it with the Commodore 1701 monitor.
I use an EPSON SMD-300 3,5" floppy-drive floppy drive. Here is a photo of my configuration. (http://www.freeweb.hu/povi/ep_config.jpg)
In the cartridge (http://www.freeweb.hu/povi/cart.jpg) I have HEASS (the best assembler for the EP 128), and EPDOS 1.7 (this is the "Norton Commander" for the EP). I have no IS-BASIC!
-
Here is a list (with links) of what I have owned since 1983.....
(They are listed in the order of owning - as I remember anyway)
1] Oric-1
First computer I ever owned, way back in 1983 - I was 16 years old.
http://www.old-computers.com/MUSEUM/computer.asp?c=180
2] Oric Atmos
Upgraded from the Oric-1 to this true beauty.
Recently I was given another one by a friend, since mine no longer works.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=79&st=1
3] Dragon 32
We were given this computer by my cousin, who no longer wanted it.
I had written a BASIC language program for my parents business on my Oric Atmos. Converted the program to run on the Dragon, which freed up the Atmos for my own use!
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=117&st=1
4] Jupiter Ace
Quirky little machine, and quite unique in that it did not have BASIC but had Forth instead.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=147&st=1
5] Acorn Electron
The little brother to the mighty BBC-B (which I could never afford). Got this one from a friend, played with it for a while, and then passed it on also.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=121&st=1
6] Sinclair ZX Spectrum
Although "evil" to Oric owners, I do admit to have owned one for a while. The only good thing I can say about it, is that there were plenty of games made for it.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=1&c=223
7] Atari 400
Went into Currys in my hometown one day, and saw one of these on sale for only 10 pounds!!! It had been reposessed by the company. Actually a very nice machine.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=76&st=1
8] Atari 800XL
Bought one second hand from a friend after I got the Atari 400, and had major fun with this great machine. Eventually gave it to my brother.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=27&st=1
9] Enterprise 128
The highlight of my collection. Still have this wonderful machine, but it is currently in my Mum's house in Scotland.
Even bought a disk drive controller and Cumana 3.5" drive for it.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=153&st=1
10] Amstrad PCW8256
This is the system that my parents bought, to replace the aging Dragon 32, and it was quite an excellent package for the price. It came complete with a monitor, 3" disk drive, and dot matrix printer.
It had two main modes of operation... a word-processor named Locoscript (which I liked very much), and the ability to run CP/M extremely well. I rewrote the business BASIC program to Mallard BASIC which ran on CP/M.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=1&c=189
11] Amstrad PCW8512
Upgraded version of the PCW8256 above, with 2 disk drives, and more memory.
For link - see above.
12] Amiga A1200
The mainstay of my computer systems for the longest time. Only recently did I put this beloved machine into storage, and only because I found myself no longer using it.
I had upgraded it from a stock machine, featured here:
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=628&st=1
to being in a tower, with a 850MB HD, and 10MB of RAM.
13] Amiga A600
Given to me by my sister for a while, I played with it, but did not use it that much since I already had the A1200. So, I gave it back to her.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=64&st=1
14] Commodore CDTV
This computer was designed for use in the living room, and came complete with a remote control and CD player.
Basically, it was a reboxed Commodore Amiga 500.
Personally, I used it more as a CD player than an actual computer. Got mine dirt cheap from a company I worked for. Think I gave it to a family member before I left for USA.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=106&st=1
15] AST PC
120 Pentium, Win95, 16MB RAM (upgraded to 80MB), 8xCD-ROM, 1.2G HD, 33.6 Fax Modem
(No link needed - its just a PC)
16] Gateway PC
166 MMX Pentium, Win98, 256MB RAM, 24xCD-ROM, 2G+30G HDs, Cable Modem
(No link needed - its just a PC)
17] Commodore 128
Upgraded version of the famous C64, with 128K of RAM.
The system I have now, was my wife's and her brothers. It has 3 x 5.25" disk drives and came with loads of software. Don't have time to use it, so it sits in a cupboard.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=96&st=1
18] Cyber-Power PC
AMD64 3200+, WinXP-Pro, 1G RAM, Sony DWD-22A Dual Format 16X DVD±R/±RW +CD-R/RW, 40G+200G HDs, Cable Modem, plus a heap of extras I will not even go into.
This is my current mainstay internet computer.
(No link needed - its just a PC - but in a blue case with windows and fans!)
19] Apple MacIntosh LC II
16 MHz 68030 CPU, 10MB RAM, 1G HD
Given to me by a church friend that was moving. Great machine in its time, but now sits gathering dust in my spare room.
Mine is not exactly the one pictured in this link, but more of the "pizza box" type.
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=1043&st=1
20] HP PC
Celeron 500, Win98, 192MB RAM, 24 x CD-ROM, 10G HD
My spare PC for internet use, but my main one for running Euphoric - an Oric computer emulator.
(No link needed - its just a PC)
-
Great collection!

Hi Guys,
Just thought I would add my config (sorry no pics at the moment) since this is my first post here.
I have a UK Enterprise 128 (strange serial label though - normal enterprise sticker but the specifics are handwritten: -
Model No. 400
Serial No. L582 (might be LS82 as the hand writing isnt great)
TV - PAL
I got it in 1995 having swapped a BBC model B for it and an EP80 printer. It also came with a number of original pieces of software : -
Devil's Lair, Chains, Fantasia Diamond, Heathrow A.T.C., Castle of Dreams, Raid(x2 copies), Colossal Adventure, Spectrum Basic Converter, Machine Code for Beginners, Spanish Gold, Nodes of Yesod, Games Pack 2, Star Strike 3D, Dictator, The Abyss, Five in a Row, Steve Davis Snooker, Demonstration Casette, Wordhang, Animal Vegetable Mineral, Beach-Head and Sorcery.
Since then I've got hold of an uncased Disk controller (Intelligent Software Ltd Disk Controller ISS B with EXDOS 1.3) and a couple of spare motherboards (from ebay many years ago - not tried them to see if they work - bought just incase my 128 died !!).
Will try and post pictures if anyone wants them.
In the meantime - thanks for the site - loads of great Enterprise stuff - just wish I could read Hungarian !!!
Cheers
Tricky

Zozo,
Thanks for the welcome. Yup - I will scan the covers for you - do you want them all and what resolution do you want? I will send the copy of Raid to you tomorrow !!
I've attached some pictures for now - will try and take some better ones soon.

Hi!
This is my Entrprise, "made in ZozoSoft"... :-)
The PC power supply used for the 4 floppy drives and with 9V converter to the EP.
The machine is overclocked to 7.12Mhz.
Rewired PC keyboard connected to the EP, for care the keyboard membrane.
The EXDOS card overclocked to 16Mhz for handling HD disks.

Please 300DPI or better. I writed my email address for you.
We want these as scanned:

I will send the copy of Raid to you tomorrow !!
Thanks!!!!!!!!
I will scan this one :-)
I've attached some pictures for now - will try and take some better ones soon.
Your machine label is very interesting...
Probably this is a very early, when no printed labels?
Do you opened it, what is in the box?
All know EP128 have a ISSUE 6 motherboards. Most of EP64 have a ISSUE 5, but I have one EP64 (arabic) which are have ISSUE 4. It is very interesting because the name on the PCB is a FLAN! (http://www.ep128.hu/Album/Pic/Flan_Enterprise.jpg)
Older than ISSUE 4 currently not know.
At this photo I not see any difference with the EXDOS cards.
Can you compare your card with these photos?
EXDOS ISS 1 top (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/EXDOSPCB1.JPG)
EXDOS ISS 1 bottom (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Bovitmenyek/Picture/EXDOSPCB2.JPG)
-
Zozo,
Sorry to go off topic - but im assuming that you want the manuals to Spectrum Basic Converter, Fantasia Diamond, Collosal Adventure, Spanish Gold, Chains, Dictator and Devils Lair as well as the covers?
EP128 - great setup - do you have any info (in English im afraid :( ) on how to use a PC keyboard with an Enterprise?
Cheers
Tricky

Yes!

Welcome!
Just thought I would add my config (sorry no pics at the moment) since this is my first post here.
We hope a lots of posts will follow your first one ;-)
In the meantime - thanks for the site - loads of great Enterprise stuff - just wish I could read Hungarian !!!
We have some volunteers to translate the important and interesting informations to English (see our Wiki (http://wiki.enterpriseforever.com/) ), but it is a huge task.
Maybe this is the time when you should start to learn Hungarian ;-) Most of us started to learn English when we met the EP. At least I did ;-)
For serious: anyone who speak English could help in the translation with proofreading the translated texts and fixing the possible grammatical errors and typos.
-
Zozo,
From a quick look - I cant see any circuit board changes on my disk controller on the top, however the bottom is slightly different - instead of saying "1786" - mine says "0686" and the there are no components on the bottom (i.e. no resistor etc.). From memory I cant remember the motherboard issue number but it does say "1984 Flan Computers" on it.
Cheers
Tricky
-
Last question, is it possible to get replacement keyboard membranes anywhere?
Cheers
Tricky
P.s. MrPrise - I am happy to help with proof reading translations and sorting grammatical errors and typos etc.
-
it does say "1984 Flan Computers" on it.
Wow! In your EP128?! Very interesting! This menas it is a ISSUE 4 or older mother board!
I think your EP128 is a very-very early!!!
Or other tip: originaly come as EP64, but later expanded to EP128 in a official Enterprise Service. We know from the scanned english magazines (thanks for Bagpuss!) after the EP128 released, the EP64 owners can buy upgrading to EP128 in the Enterprise Services.
At the top of house which label? Enterprise 128K (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/Enterprise128.JPG) or Enterprise ONE TWO EIGHT (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ep128box8.jpg)?
If possible, I want see high resolution photos from your mother board. I know it is a hard work :-)
For example:
From EP64 035459:
ISSUE 5 top (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ISSUE5-4.jpg)
ISSUE 5 bottom (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ISSUE5-2.jpg)
From EP128 02944:
ISSUE 6 top (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ISSUE6-6.jpg)
ISSUE 6 top (with raised RAM expansion) (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ISSUE6-5.jpg)
ISSUE 6 bottom (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ISSUE6-4.jpg)
-
Zozo,
The case says "Enterprise ONE TWO EIGHT"
Photos of the motherboard are a little tricky - the raised RAM expansion isnt easy to move so cant get the motherboard out of the case without risking breaking it - however top photo attached.
Cheers
Tricky
-
however top photo attached.
Thanks!
I think it is ISSUE 4 (or older).
Because:
1) Flan name
2) see the components at the near left of TV modulator. On your mb one capacitor not in the PCB, later assembled.
On ISSUE 5,6 this capacitor have a own place in the PCB
This is my ISSUE 4 mother board (http://www.ep128.hu/Album/Pic/Motherboard_ISSUE4.jpg), it is have same later assembled capacitor.
I only see ISSUE 6 board in EP128 machines...
I think you have one of the first few EP128s!
Do you have same in the spare motherboards? :-)
-
By request, a little bump of this old thread :)
I own 2 Enterprise 128s, both UK models. An EP64 will be added to the collection, I just won that today.
Pictures will follow as well, once I have the 64, I'll make some nice "family portraits" :-)
Apart from Enterprise, my other vintage passion is MSX.
I have a Goldstar FC200 MSX1 (my first computer), a number of MSX2 computers and lots of hard/software for it.
I'd like to find more Enterprise peripherals, but these seem to be very rare.
as said, images will follow later (in one or two weeks)
-
I shot some pictures of my enterprises today. See the attachements to this post.
I have a UK machine and a German machine, this machine is a bit cleaner, but unfortunately misses the joystick partly.
So, it looks like I have an old model and a later model. I'll be receiving a (UK, I believe) ep64 somewhere next week, wonder what the serial on that one is.
I actually unpacked the german enterprise today. Two years after receiving it. It has been in its box since 2006 :) Surprisingly I found the original Enterprise tape recorder/data corder with it in the box. Forgot about that :)
-
And here is a hungarian (?) version. At least I think it's hungarian, although QWERTZ keyboard is also used in Germany. Maybe someone can confirm hungary also has qwertz?
No, it is a German version!
But the German and Hungarian keyboard layout also a qwertz.
Officialy the Enterprise released with English, German, Arabic keyboards.
The German machines have a additional 16K ROM extension in the cartridge. This is contains the German character set and keyboard handler, error messages, etc
You can switch the language with the :BRD and :UK commands.
Unofficialy the Hungarian users modified the German ROM, and make Hungarian ROM: modified character set, error messages, etc
With this, can be used the :HUN and :UK command for the language switching.
And what we currently don't know:
About 3000 machine sold in the Soviet Union. But don't know which version?
It is exist a Russian keyboard version?
-
It is exist a Russian keyboard version?
well, MSX has some russian versions, with cyrillic keyboards.. but did the EPs have this?

Hello I'm Gustavo (Gflorez) from Spain.
My actual configuration is a EP128 with serial 01179 PAL. My tape recorder is the SONY SDC500, a efficient machine with many controls.
Gustavo.

My actual configuration is a EP128
Thanks for the photos!
with serial 01179 PAL.
Nice early machine!

My EP128 at work :-)
Nice :-)
This is original FDD in your Enterprise "combo" (Exdos+FDD) unit?
Units what I see, have a BASF FDD, with black front panel, and some more height than the current 3.5" drives.
-
It is not the original BASF drive. I have it still but it wont read disks so I replaced it.
-
Today I got an Arabic EP64. The machine was in bad condition, lot of dust and the keyboard has no gum mat and was broken near the joystick. So first I disassembled and cleaned the whole machine. Fortunately I have a keybord for repairs so the machine is now working.

Thanks for the new photos!
073433? Wow! I think this the currently know greatest serial number!
The original green joystick is broken?
Can you see what is the ISSUE of this motherboard?
In my Arabic EP64 (http://enterpriseforever.com/hardware/your_enterprise_configuration-t108.0.html;msg6989#msg6989) is a ISSUE4, labeled as FLAN!
-
Zozo I hope this are the right photos to see the issue.
The knob for the joystick is lost :(
-
Zozo I hope this are the right photos to see the issue.
This is rare: ISSUE4 or older!
The ISSUE number writed to the bottom side of the PCB. (http://ep.homeserver.hu/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ISSUE5-1.jpg) (And also on the top side, but the TV modulator is cover it :-( )
-
Ok I got it. :)
-
Ok I got it. :)
Thanks!!!
We currently know only three ISSUE4 machines: Your, My, and one at Tricky.
Anyone have a ISSUE3? :-)
-
Hello, All,
my first EP-128 was German, bought in the middle of 1990.
Second one is second-handed, English version, serial 021823. It's an ordinary ISSUE 6 machine. It's in near-to-new condition, but with the partially broken keyboard matrix - ENTER, JOY...
-
partially broken keyboard matrix - ENTER, JOY...
It is damaged at the keys?
-
It is damaged at the keys?
No, there are cracks at silver solders under UP, RIGHT, ENTER. Sometime ago, I've tried to recover it by the means of PCB which mounted under the joystick, with wires connected directly to solders between keyboard matrix layers, and yet, it's worked sometime. But at now, matrix needs to be replaced.
-
Enterprise 128k German version.
Now English version (after extracting BRD chip from ROM cartrige)
Serial 010683 (PAL UHF)
Keyboard was partially dead (int Joy, space, enter, alt)
Joystick from Videoton Computer connecting to EXT1
At now load programs from old portable CD player (I burn Audio-CD with my favorite games :ds_icon_cheesygrin:)
New programs load from mp3 player.
-
SlashNet, welcome here!
Keyboard was partially dead (int Joy, space, enter, alt)
Do you tried to fix the keyboard membrane? If you are lucky then it is broken at near to the mother board connector, and enought to cut 1-2 cm length.
But if it is broken at the keys, then it is very hard to fix it, near to impossible :-(
-
It broken at the keys :(
and membrane near motherboard is good at now, but very-very short (after many-many cuts)
P.S. Ouch! Forget to write. My dad bought EP in Hungary (town: Kalocsa) in 1990 year in summer.

My latest:
Cool!
I wonder if any registered members of this forum have ISSUE1 and ISSUE2 motherboards. A "group photograph" of them would be needed. :D

Thank you!
What happened with the heatsink cover?
-
One extra question: can you see the monitor connector pins?
If all pins present then your mother board is a ISSUE 6. Most of 128K machines have this version.
If the B1 and A6 pins are missing then the board is a ISSUE 4 or 5. (The 4 or 5 question only can be answered by opening the machine.)

I have hungarian manual. It was very heavy to learn BASIC on it.
19 August 2008:
My dad bought EP in Hungary (town: Kalocsa) in 1990 year in summer.

Heatsink temp was wery hot.
In school years I playing/programming on EP many hours continuously.

Yes, I'm also, in the summer holidays at least 16 hours per day, sometimes 24 hours per day :ds_icon_cheesygrin:
But never see melted heatsink cover.

Thanks! This is a ISSUE 6 motherboard. Inventory updated :-)
Btw, I've just checked my ones out, both of them seems to be issue 6! S/N 021596 is already marked as issue 6 motherboard in your inventory, but not the other.

Nice early machine! Do you know the ISSUE number of the motherboard?
HiSoft pascal cartridge. :)
It is a original? If yes then please make a lot of photo from them! We never see original Pascal cartridge!

I've not had a chance to take it apart and have a look at the bottom side of the motherboard yet, I'll see if I can get a moment to do it! :)
The cartridge is a copy, I'm afraid!

If you can then look at the monitor connector pins:
If all pin present, then it is ISSUE 6, if one missing then it is 4 or 5. If the pins are wide then ISSEU 3, but if I know right then the first 100 machine have ISSUE 3 board.
If it is looks a a ISSUE 4 or 5 then try to watch the red marked soldering pins at the modulator via the bottom grille. If these are missing then it is a ISSUE 4.
If you can open the machine then watch the company name, if it is FLAN instead Enterprise then it is a ISSUE 4.

I thought it was about time I posted a pic of my Enterprise! Fully loaded, as the Americans say, as you can see! :ds_icon_cheesygrin: (The TV picture is much better than it looks in the photo.)
With much gratitude to zozo for his help, I now have a better system than I ever saw back in 1983/4/5 at Intelligent Software! :ds_icon_cheesygrin:

That is the plan but so far all I have done is to plug it in place of the real drive to make sure it works - I need to make myself some cables!

I've just acquired another Enterprise 64 from eBay for a cheap price as it's broken. Not tried powering it up yet, but thought I'd add it to the list here! I'll eventually get around to finding out what is wrong with it.
Serial Number 037094, PAL1 machine.
It also has arabic letters in green on the keys, which my other machine does not have.

I wrote tips about the repair. (http://enterpriseforever.com/for-sale/ebay-auctions/msg33961/#msg33961)
Serial Number 037094, PAL1 machine.
Thanks!
It also has arabic letters in green on the keys, which my other machine does not have.
4000 EP64 machines were sold to Egypt, these have arabic keys. But currently I don't know any software which creates/uses arabic characters.
Many years ago one English guy worked in Egypt. He bought old computers on the local flea markets and sold on the Ebay. I think the current seller of this machine bought it from this man a few years ago.
-
Hi Zozo, thanks for the repair tips! I hadn't realised you had spotted that EP64 on eBay as well. I bought it straight away a £50 -- you don't see EP machines selling for less than about £150 on eBay in the UK, and even if I couldn't get it working, at least I'd get my green joystick cap for my working machine!
-
if I couldn't get it working
I think it is can be repaired less than 10 minutes :-)
I repaired least 20 machines with similar problem.
-
I thought I'd have a look, and I'm getting 8.1v at the input and 7.3v at the output of U21, so the 12v section does appear to be broken. Caps are philips -- how can I tell a dead cap? It's not bulging or oozing or anything, but I guess the 12v section being broken is a good indication this cap is defective?
Also, the modulator seems like it may have been bodged. There's a cap and resistor soldered together in what looks like a retrofit, but it may well be like that on all EP's, I've not taken the other one apart in a while. Also there is a wire not connected to anything on the underside of the modulator! Pictures attached.
This EP has definitely been apart, though, the keyboard connector cable was bent and not inserted fully.
And on a different problem, the 6 key is sticking on my other EP64 -- looks like the keyboard membrane has died. Good thing you can get new ones on eBay, although they are expensive...

It is good indication for the TR2 are dead. If TR2 replaced and again no 12V, the cap is defective :-) then the new TR2 killed...
Removed capacitor can be checked capacitance meter.
My experience are: the Philips capacitors, especially in arabic machines (which are in hot Egypt for a many long years) are dried out. I measured about half capacity on a removed defective C9.
It is good idea replace all Philips capacitors, but only the C9 looks a critical which can made not working machine.
I checked the another type capacitors (http://gafz.enterpriseforever.com/Galery/Alapgep/Picture/ISSUE6-5.jpg) also from arabic machines: not found capacity loss.

I guess somebody tried repair the machine and thought the problem with the modulator.
High res photos of ISSUE 5 board, you can see how originaly placed the components at the modulator:

The keys in one row or column? If yes the it is a typicaly sign of the connector tail of the membrane are broken. Usualy at the motherboard connection. Cut the broken few milimeters and will work again.
But it is can break again due the age. After few cuts the length not enought. then needed the new membrane.
-
That's great information, thanks Zozo! C9 and TR2 removed, I'll order some replacements.
I had actually already trimmed the keyboard membrane connectors already due to a crack in one of them, I'll have to take it apart and see what's sticking. I'm getting key 6 repeating forever, so there's a constant connection somewhere.
-
I've located some replacement 100uf 10v axial electrolytic caps on eBay of the right size cheaper than I can get them from Farnell, so I'll go with those. There's also some 35v 10uf caps which would be ideal to replace the rest of the philips caps on the board as well, the only difference being the caps on the board are 25v, which shouldn't cause a problem. Hopefully we'll have another working Enterprise 64 soon. :)
-
With the BC337, do you know which of the BC337-16/25/40 are compatible? The only difference I can see is the current gain min / max are different for the different models...
-
On the removed originals I never see any other mark than just "BC337". I used -40 version at the last few dozen repairs.
-

Thanks, Zozo. The 40 version is certainly the closest match (same max current gain as the "plain" BC337). I'll see if I can get a plain BC337 or the 40.
-
With many thanks to Zozo, we now have another working EP64! TR2 and C9 replaced and the Enterprise logo is flashing at me... :ds_icon_cheesygrin:
I have enough caps to replace all the electrolytics, so I'll do that too. And I've cut down an old 5 1/4" floppy connector to fit the monitor port, so I will wire up a connector to fit my Atari monitor too. The RF output is terrible and I prefer a nice old CRT for old hardware... :)

Hi, i have a standard EP128 PAL version (UK). I also have the joystick adapter.
As yet no software or other things.
I am now looking for an EXDOS interface or something similar that will let me put a drive onto the EP.
I have spare 720k standard 3.5" drives to use!

I have two Enterprise machines:
- Germanized EP128
- Arabic EP64 (Recently I've modded the EP64 with the 512K RAM expansion, I best prefer its QWERTY keyboard and I'm trying to make it my daily machine).
Both upgraded to EXOS 2.4 :)
The extra gear comprises:
- EXDOS controller upgraded to EXOS 1.3
- Original tape recorder
- Some cartridges. I specially like the "EP Plus" with some extra ROMs I've added (IS-Forth, ASMON)
I would love to keep upgrading the RAM of my machines or rising the CPU speed; but I'm happy for now.
-
Can you write the serial numbers?
-
Sure!
German EP128: Serial 014649 (PAL UHF)
Arabic EP64: Serial 032383 (PAL I?)
-
Thanks! Added to inventory (http://enterprise.iko.hu/inventory.htm) :ds_icon_cheesygrin:

I think, yes. :)

Some more photos.
Сartridge PCB is yellow and chip is not in socket.
Such versions of cartridges was existed?
-

Never seen same :!:
Is it your cartridge? If I remember right: your machine was bought in Hungary?
The ROM chip is the original IS-BASIC 2.1 chip. But the PCB looks a "socialist" quality, it isn't from England or West Germany. PCB layout is different from the original 1 socket cartridge.
-
No. It is the same EP from Russia.
(My comp is from Hungary. You remember right)

This is the machine with broken then repaired 12V? (Serial 023428)

Then I think this cartridge сделано в СССР :ds_icon_cheesygrin:
In the interview with the Hungarian director, he says the Soviet partner company wants to produce full Enterprises built from Soviet components, buying just the Nick and Dave chips. As we know finally this didn't happen.
But now I think very possible cartridges are produced by this company.

One of my 2 Enterprise 128. The Tape i not use, i will remove. Have now the SD-Card.
Serial Nr. is:009214

Nice!
And the other machine?
-
the other machine i setup tomorrow , hope it work. I never test before.
I need the joystick pen, i lose. And i also need to buy another scary-cable, i lose the address where i bought the last.
After some days with the EP, i must say "what a Amazing" Machine !

:ds_icon_cheesygrin:
How did you meet at first time with the Enterprise?
-
Cool! , i just have ordered one cable. Thank you!
Many Many years ago i bought my first EP on german ebay after i read about in a Retro Magazin.
Then some time later i planed to setup and programm for it. I also bought an floppy interface , i think from you.
BUT i never use it.:(
It was always my plan to use this machine, and at the end now with the SD-card i finaly have one on my table:)
The last machine i programm is the Vtech CreatiVision, some samples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zuG2HPaL2k
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Sr-4neH0jg
I will develop some now for the EP, ONLY the graphics drive me crazy. No tool do draw the screens, sprites in a eays way.
-
You can try CPCEPSprite (http://enterpriseforever.com/programming/cpcepsprites-release-0-0/) for sprites.
-
I also bought an floppy interface , i think from you.
BUT i never use it.:(
If I remember right it is with memory expansion, then still can be useful also when using SD adapter.
-
oh great!
I forget that is with memory expansion.
I wan`t dawnload CPCEPsprite , but i seams is disable at the moment.
Anyone can send me the actual version?
-
I can boast of three machines EP128.
013048 - QWERTZ, boxed with complete accessories (power supply, cartridge, Hungarian instruction, cassette demo).
017842 - QWERTY, box in a little worse shape than the previous one, but also complete.
008879 - QWERTY, only computer with power supply and cartridge, damaged modulator, but I made myself RGB cable.
On this last computer I run my projects.
In addition, I have an original 3,5" floppy drive (serial number 0607) and original EXDOS interface (without box).
I have an SD card reader from SzörG.
The rest is homemade :) ZX Spectrum Emulator and compact EXDOS with FlexiBridge.
At the moment, thanks to gflorez, I'm working on PS/2 mouse interface (working name of the project is EnterMice).
Almost ready is project of CF card interface (extension to my compact EXDOS) and, during the conceptual work, card RAM/Flash/Real Time Clock (RFC).

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum. I'm the Lucky owner of an Enterprise 64 (Lansay 64) that I found a french flea market. The machine is in mint condition (never used and left in his box). Unfortunately there is an issue with the video output :( . I've created a thread under the hardware section to get assistance for repairing it.
Here some pictures;

(http://img11.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_602694DSCN7981.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=602694DSCN7981.jpg)
If anyone interested I've scanned the Lansay 64 booklet (in french) that was in the box;

Wow! Amazing! You are the first known Lansay owner!
-
How many pieces is on the list (I don't want to count) ?
Please sign of my three (https://enterpriseforever.com/hardware/your-enterprise-configuration/msg47392/#msg47392) :)
Updated :-)
Currently 52 EP64, 308 EP128 (+4 Model 911 :-) ) registered in the list. But there are many people who do not provide the serial numbers :-( And I saw many machines on auctions where also no serial photo. I think these are least +50%.
-
Here is the serial of one of my EP128 (German): 013102.
I have another, unfortunately it is in my parents house.
I have a Spectrum emulator card, upgraded by Zozo, an Exdos card+640K RAM by MGyHard, and now an Entermice by Pear :D

Hi there,
I recentely joined the forum after I revived (new membrane) my Enterprise 64 kb (s/n: 35376) and floppy-drive (s/n:0190). EXOS 2.1 and EXDOS 1.3. The Enterprise was upgraded to 576 Kb which I reduced to 320 kB due to some overheating.
I bought these around 1985 and also joined the Enterface fanclub in the Netherlands. I still have some published material from that time, mostly in dutch :(
Did have a printer and working RGB connection with a Sony "monitor" but those were sold on a flee-market long ago.
I remember buying some soft- and hardware at Werner Lindner in Germany. Speak-easy module was one of them.
Tried some coding back then and discovered quit some nice features that way. Not pretending to be very good at it though!
Amazed seeing the developments that are still going on in this community and if I can contribute in a way I would love to do so.

This type RAM expansion (http://ep128.hu/Album/Pic/Internal_512K_RAM_expansion.jpg) you have?
I suggest find a HY53C256 RAM ICs, these use less power, because these are CMOS ICs.
I bought these around 1985 and also joined the Enterface fanclub in the Netherlands. I still have some published material from that time, mostly in dutch :(
At here (http://enterprise.iko.hu/magazines.htm) you can find some dutch magazines. Do you have more?
-
ah, a new member! welcome!!!
any lost materials are treasure for me!
-
Welcome home, BOELIE.
Here you can rescue all that good sensations of that era. The time where we discovered the enjoyment of learning the internal operation of a machine, which its possibilities could be "almost infinite" if enough knowledge was attained. A piece of our mind integrated on a machine and guiding it....
Don't worry about the language. Here, people of many nationalities meet and share their findings. In my case it was he eagerness of computer knowledge what drove to me to learn English. But there is a Dutch EnterFace issue I would be very happy to translate, 1987 August-September.....
As you can see fine people can aid you to fix your equipment.
Please share your treasures...
-
A few things form my collection:
EXDOS card, ISS1, but now with WD1772, and EXDOS 1.3.
EP128 Issue 6, with German keyboard, but in English house.
Speakeasy has no SN.
And one more EP128, before Issue 6, German.
-

Yes, thats it!
I suggest find a HY53C256 RAM ICs, these use less power, because these are CMOS ICs.
I will look for these type of RAM. How many can I use in combination with this board?
At here (http://enterprise.iko.hu/magazines.htm) you can find some dutch magazines. Do you have more?
I have some more. I will try to scan these and upload.
-
@gflorez
Any specific subject you would have translated from the august-september '87 enterface?
-
Yes, thats it!
How you got it?
You expanded your machine, or it is done in Enterprise service (probably at the Enterprise Computers Gmbh?)?
Or already bought expanded machine? If I remember right in dutch magazines advertised "Enterprise 576K" machines.
I will look for these type of RAM. How many can I use in combination with this board?
2x8=16 needed for the 512K expansion
I have some more.
Great!
I will try to scan these and upload.
Thanks!
-
@Zozosoft Thanks.
I bought it as a 64K version.
The expension was done later by the dutch user club, but probably it was sent to Germany.
Enterface:
I have issue 1.0, published before september '85, and onefrom december 1986 and another from jun/july '88. These are missing in your listing.
@Gflorez
Sorry, I responded without checking. I don't think there has been a 87 aug/sept version. I think I would still have it and I don't.
-
It was an article about MIDI interfacing, the second part....
Don't worry, may be some day I'll got it. And surely you bring other juicy articles with the numbers you have.
-
I bought it as a 64K version.
The expension was done later by the dutch user club, but probably it was sent to Germany.
Do you got a extra ENTERPRISE COMPUTERS label (http://enterprise.iko.hu/inventory/128__04411.jpg) to the serial label?
-
No extra label,just this one.
-
I also have an EXDOS card :)
With no box unfortunatelly.
-
for the records a picture of my drive.
-
Thanks for the photos!
Very interesting the your EXDOS label, the serial number part are missing! You bought it with this label? Or it is repaired once?
-
The exdos part is built inside the drive. (see picture). There may be a sticker on the exdos-board, but thats not visable when I look inside the drive.
HAve you seen such a drive combo before?
-
Very interesting the your EXDOS label, the serial number part are missing! You bought it with this label? Or it is repaired once?
That's it was when I bought it.
-
HAve you seen such a drive combo before?
Yes (https://enterpriseforever.com/hardware/creating-exdos-card-clone/msg46136/#msg46136). I did renovate one of them :)
-
Witchy! Can you make photos and write details about your Enterprise stuff? For my statistic. (http://enterprise.iko.hu/inventory.htm)

OK, a quick list!
ep64 1719
ep64 34584

Thanks!
ep64 1719
ep64 34584
These are English machines?
ep64 73514
It is are Arabic?
ep128 965
One the label photo this is are EP64!
This have the additional 128K label on the top? Then it is a upgraded EP64 machine.
It is have the 2.1 version of ROMs? (EP64 come with 2.0 versions)
If you open it: it is have the standard 64K RAM board with DRAM chips. (http://www.ep128.hu/Album/Pic/Internal_64K_RAM_expansion(03-08).jpg)
Or this later one with SRAM chips? (http://www.ep128.hu/Album/Pic/Internal_Memory_Card_64k.jpg)
ep128 25603
It is a English machine?
-
They're all English machines, the upgraded 128 is an issue 4 64 with the daughterboard added, standard 4864 SRAMs. I can't remember which ROM version it's got but I'll be getting a new membrane for my usual 'exhibition' machine then I'll be having another go at getting EXDOS working with both of them.
-
Yay, my replacement keyboard membrane arrived from RWAP yesterday so I fitted it tonight. While the top was off I also burnt a 27C512 EPROM with Zozo's EXOS 2.3 and added the extra wire for A15. Tempted to get my dual Cumana floppy drive set sprayed black so it all matches :ds_icon_cheesygrin:
Pics!

Nice configuration!
Did you checked the ROM version before the upgrade?
As I see this machine also need a pull-up resistors to the data lines. The floating data bus made the phantom non working segments.
But with the floating bus some not well written programs can be freeze...
I wrote about it here. (https://enterpriseforever.com/hardware/6mhz-and-more/msg37473/#msg37473)
-
Nice configuration!
Did you checked the ROM version before the upgrade?
Yep, it's 2.1 and now in my spares box. I'll see if I can chase down someone who's willing to sell me only a few of those resistor networks, most e*ay sellers want to sell 40 at a time!
Nice to have a steady working setup too, pity my floppy drive flaked out at the Recursion exhibition a few weeks ago but it didn't seem to matter, people were just interested in the machine itself. What utility can I use to put DTF images back onto real floppies?
-
OK, RAM pullups added and I found a set of floppy drives ostensibly for the QL (since they have MEDIC written on the plug after the QL disk interface of the same name) but they work nicely for the EP and look the part!

When I bought, I had the Basic cartridge without label, I thought it was so, until I saw photos online and clone the cover:

Hi Sinclair200, that's an excellent collection of machines and bits, I've never seen another Miracle Systems QL floppy or 512K Expandaram so it's nice to know others are out there.
A DiSCIPLE too, nice....

I think it is created from Lacika fantasy cover design. (http://ep128.hu/Album/Ep_Kazetta/Outrun_HIGH.jpg) Which is created for a lot of other non official Enterprise programs. see here. (http://ep128.hu/Album/Ep_Kazetta/Ep_Kazetta.htm)

 It seemed like an original one :)
I saw the cover designs, just did not think that it is used in the reality :)

One of my EP128 (sn: 017842 - QWERTY) changed an owner.
I replaced with zaxon on EP64 (this one from the Spanish auction (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162374572822)).
Box fairly tired, but it is. Power supply and cables complete.
-
An Enterprise 64 can save you some time removing the internal Ram expansion...
But first upgrade Basic to 2.1 and Exos to 2.1 or higher versions. The mouse driver doesn't work on Exos 2.0.
-
I want to leave it in its original configuration.
I'll have to compare compatibility.
-
Ok, you can leave as original the Basic cartridge if you want(you already have another with Basic2.1), but the memory map of EXOS (http://enterprise.iko.hu/memorymap.htm) 2.0 is five bytes higher than on 2.1 version.
There are a lot of programs that assume the modern addresses and read or write the Exos values directly(for example the mouse driver). If the wrong data is accessed, the system hangs.

Welcome!
EP128 on the top of an Amiga 500: nice combination!
I use a homemade RGB cable, see schematic at the bottom of the following page:
http://enterprise.iko.hu/pinouts.htm
I recommend the EXDOS clone card V2 manufactured by pear.
He's a member on this forum as well.
Best regards: Gábor

The photo with the RGB cable? It looks the red signal is missing.

I have been a volunteer for a month at the Museum of the History of Computers and Computer Science in Katowice (http://www.muzeumkomputerow.edu.pl/).
I fix equipment for exhibitions.
We have it in the cabinet one EP128. I took care of it today.
German version. Low serial number. No box, no accessories. Completely naked. Keyboard membrane damaged.
Inside there is an ISS6 board. Nick without a heat sink (no signs of ever being there). There are also no traces of the 64KB RAM add-on module. As if it had never been there.
Are these number stickers factory ?
There's another EP somewhere in the magazine, but I don't know which one. I haven't found it yet.

Nice! Next time when I'm in Katowice I will visit it! (Many years ago I went with railfan friends to look at the Silesian Tramway network)
We have it in the cabinet one EP128. I took care of it today.
Is it working now?
German version. Low serial number.
Match, I have the 02944 (http://enterprise.iko.hu/inventory/128__02944.jpg) and 02978 (http://enterprise.iko.hu/inventory/128__02978.jpg) machines, both are German.
Inside there is an ISS6 board. Nick without a heat sink (no signs of ever being there).
The bugfixed second version of Nick (08-47) doesn't need it. Then, for some machines it was not installed in the factory. For example the previously mentioned 02944 machine.
There are also no traces of the 64KB RAM add-on module. As if it had never been there.
This is more mystic!
My guess is someone swapped the motherboards with a EP64 machine. Motherboard screws are also missing! Probably the alufoil pack is also missing which makes the GND contact at the modulator to the case metal painting. Speaker factory glued?
Rare, but some ISSUE 6 EP64 boards also exist.
Which EXOS version is installed?
Are these number stickers factory ?
Yes, I just call them "stamp style" numbers. About up to 3600 used this style. Then the "typewriter style" comes, for example. (http://enterprise.iko.hu/inventory/128__03665.JPG)
Probably from 005000 used the regular style numbers.

I don't understand much of this page, only some words. My favourite word is "muzeum" which is almost the same in most languages. Even in Hungarian: múzeum. Are there any forum members who use a different word for this in their language?
-
Is it working now?
Yes, it is partially working. There is no cartridge and the keyboard does not work.
There is a colorful picture via the RGB connector. I haven't checked the modulator yet.
The bugfixed second version of Nick (08-47) doesn't need it.

Yes, Nick in version 08-47, Dave 08-05.
Speaker glued to the housing.
No alufoil pack.
Which EXOS version is installed?
I don't know yet. Is it possible to check without a keyboard ?
-

Version displayed during the memory test. And the copyright message at the ENTERPRISE logo screen: 1984: EXOS 2.0, 1985: EXOS 2.1
Another sign: EXOS 2.0 forgot to set border to black at power on. Then random colored border displayed during the memory test.

Then this is EXOS 2.0.
-
Then this is EXOS 2.0.
Then I'm sure it is a EP64 board. Probably someone moved from broken but working EP64 to a non working EP128.

Hello Everyone
With me being a new member here I'd thought I'd start with posting details of my machine first.
It's a standard PAL EP64 with an issue 4 board, S/N 031830, with EXDOS 2.0.
I bought this off eBay a fair few years back and looked like it was very rarely used with it being boxed and still in it's plastic packing, plus the warranty sticker was still intact, so nobody has ever been inside this computer since it left the factory. It came boxed and complete with PSU, manuals, demo tape, all the standard cables and IS-Basic cartridge.
The only things that I have done to this machine recently, is replaced the Philips capacitors with Visay Axial and Nichion Radial brands, TR2 with a BC337/16 and all the voltage regulators. I'm currently waiting for a new keyboard membrane to arrive. I don't know which version of the NICK is installed with the factory heat sink still being tightly glued on, but at a guess I suspect it's the earlier version. After around five minutes, using the Fractals on the demo tape; I'm seeing random yellow pixels flashing on and off to the right of any drawn pixel drawn. Goes away if I blow a can of Dust Off onto the heat sink for a few seconds. Not something I would have noticed on an old CRT Television via the RF cable, but do when using a monitor cable. So it would be much appreciated if anyone can let me know a safe way to remove the old heat sink and glue and a possible more modern replacement for the heat sink.

Hello, welcome Dawlane.
You are probably right, the 64KB models were built with the defective earlier Nick. But the defect has also some degrees, not showing itself on a common use. Even so, it will give you a lot of enjoyment. If the cooper shield is firmly glued, maybe it is a good decision to leave it there.... You will not gain a lot better performance with a modern heat-sink....
It seems that you have some skills. I recommend you to do the internal Eprom mod, to install the Zozo's modified EXOS Rom. The EXOS 2.0 version that came with your EP is slightly incompatible with the common 2.1 EXOS version they fitted on the 128 model, and also some other errors have been fixed by Zozo.
You can even put an internal expansion memory, there are free gerbers (https://enterpriseforever.com/interface/internal-memory-expansion/msg82103/#msg82103) to make it one yourself.
Even without a massive storage device attached(SD cartridge, floppy controller SymbiFace3), you can still load programs by tape, for example from a PC audio output. It will be slow, but the EP will work the same once the game or program loaded.
