Hello Zozo, hello friends, all Enteprise fans and supporters.

It is a pleasure to write again on Enterpriseforever, due to my occupations managing RetroWiki, I can't post as much as I like, but certainly I'm still active user of Enterprise as it's my favorite 8 bit and certainly,  the best of the 8 bit ever made. Does anyone still not know? xD ;-)

I own two floppy emulators, one is the HxC Slim and the other is a Gotek with the firm of Jeff HxC.

Both works perfectly with my disk controller (Apple2Man) and I'm also very lucky since last Saturday gflorez broadened my Enteprise 128 to 576KB. You can watch at Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwvz9T58b7M

Right, Some time ago I downloaded the HxC Zozo Manager version 0.1 (2013) and I was testing with both floppy emulators, but apparently these although support LBA mode, you can not assign disks to the slots, ie, unit A and unit B.

With HxC Slim , not having buttons to select the disk image, an autoboot.hfe file must be used in order to boot and this starts correctly. I have tried all possible configurations HXCSDFE.CFG but refuses to work. What I did is to rename HXC.HFE to AUTOBOOT.HFE, also you can configure both floppy emulators with STARTUPA.HFE and B.

Instead, the Gotek has buttons to change the disk image forward and backward, but the results remain the same. I am not able to work the HxC Manager by Zozo.

I have made a new thread at RetroWiki ( http://rw30.retrowiki.es/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=503 ) and translated here ( https://translate.google.es/translate?sl=es&tl=hu&js=y&prev=_t&hl=es&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Frw30.retrowiki.es%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ff%3D20%26t%3D503&edit-text=&act=url ) for more information about the issue.

I formatted the SD and USB and they are correct (I use Linux)

Well, with the HXC Slim and the Gotek HxC (Jeff) it loads and automatically invokes the menu selection but when the disc (HFE) either A is: or B: there's nothing to do.

I have tried several cables, several CFG and so far I have not managed to activate the HFE you have selected either as A or B. I will continue and I'll be telling evidence, you may only work with screen HxC meanwhile it said.

I have updated the firmware to the latest version, in this case  HXCFESlim_V2_1_2_40 version.

I'm testing with several cables and the results are the same, in fact I set the unit A as DS0 and B as DS1, that it looks that either the HxC Manager Zozo when version 0.1 of 2013 or very old or for some reason with Slim HxC  and the Gotek not finish going well.

I will continue investigating to see if I take any conclusion more and good, if I can not use this tool, nothing will happen, the I keep using as so far they are working properly, what happens is that this tool is like the one for Amiga, ST and CPC , is great to choose that you want to load in a second.

As you can not choose the boot disk you have the option to always start a HFE, in this case AUTOBOOT.HFE is renowned HXC.HFE and start Enter the disk and invokes the ExDOS perfectly and HXC.COM loads as well.

Do any of you have been able to run the utility with HxC Zozo Slim or the Gotek?

It is possible that HxC incorporating display and buttons only work?

Any help is greatly appreciated, I don't know if there are new versions of Manager, anyway I would like to give it a try.

Really happy to post here again.
Best Regards

The best way to use the HxC Manager use the ROM version. For a loadable need to put to all disks (or buttons on the floppy emulator :-) ), or use one drive for programs another for the loadable Manager.

Zozo, thank you very much for your answer. Let's see if I understand you well, you say I have to use the ROM version or connect a drive ( physical or emulator ) and the HxC, I understand that this is to launch the HXC.COM from outside the floppy emulator to be used.

Is there a possibility to load ROMs from disk ?. I think gflorez told me something about...

I 'll try to test all these options, in fact I think I have enough cables, and I just have to configure the emulator as B: and DS1, I suppose.

I will keep you informed of the progress and also I will publish in RW in order to help more potential Enterprise users.

Thanks a lot. Bye

Here's a video in where you can see the behaviour of the Slim HxC with the Enterprise.

And of course, information about tests can be readed in the threads mentioned above at RW.

Can you make .VHD image of your SD card? At initial state and after the settings went wrong.

Hello Zozo !

Sure I can, but I do not use windows, else Linux, a disk dump with dd should be enough.
I'll use a 32MB ( yes, MegaBytes ) SD Card, and with just the needed files, compressed will result on a very little file.

But, I'm thinking the problem IS NOT your software NOR SD or files corruption, else the HxC Slim and Gotek are NOT Compatible due to their Indexed mode.

You cant choose what disk image to be used, the few alternatives goes using indexed mode, calling disk DSKA0000.HFE for Drive A and DSKB0000.HFE for Drive B.

Or defining STARTUPA.HFE ( for Drive A ) or STARTUPB.HFE ( for Drive B ) or AUTOBOOT.HFE to force the boot. With HxC Slim you can set the jumpers and define DS0 for A: and DS1: for B: , I have tried all combinations without success. The problem resides in the HxC Slim or Gotek HxC Firm, which is not the same than the HxC with Screen. I'm sure with the HxC with Screen and buttons will work properly.

With the normal ( screen ) HxC you are able to select the image you want, but with this two variants isn't possible.

Check by yourself HxC Slim is a big piece of sh*t: http://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_drive_emulator/Slim_SD_HxC_Floppy_Emulator_User_Manual_ENG.pdf

I'm using latest firmware version and DOES NOT WORK.

> Slim SD HxCFloppyEmulator firmware upgrade v2.1.2.40 (please have a look to the Release Notes for the latest changes)

http://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_drive_emulator/slim_sd_hxc_floppy_emulator_firmware_release_notes.txt

Thanks very much anyway for your support.

Oh ! just more thing:

On Amiga, ST and CPC there's a software  ( selector ) as Host Control Tool.

With this tool the host computer can access directly to the SDCard to select files images and change the SDCard HxC Floppy Emulator settings.

With this tool the LCD screen and the buttons are becoming optional / useless. You can even remove the LCD screen to put the SD HxC Floppy Emulator inside the Amiga/Atari/CPC computer without case modification.

Actually Atari ST, Amstrad CPC and Amiga versions of this tools are available. http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/index.html#SDCARDFloppyemulator_Onscreendisplay

http://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_drive_emulator/SDCard_HxC_Floppy_Emulator_Manager.zip

In fact, your tool becomes to be same, but for the Enterprise. You can download the versions from the above link and compare the HXCSDFE.CFG

To use it you need :
copy/replace HXCSDFE.CFG to your sdcard.
copy AUTOBOOT.HFE to your sdcard.

I made my own HFE image including your tool and an EXDOS.INI, and it boots and run, but after HFE selection + F1 does not work.

I have found HXCFESlim_V2_1_6_15a.upd as beta versión, i'll give it a try to see what happend....

Hello !!!

I bring very good news. It's WORKING, Amazing

First of all I updated the HxC Slim firmware to the beta version.

I made it work. I downloaded your SD ( 2 GB ) and transfered to my 2GB SD.

Also, I have prepared a 512MB SD CARD, with the needed software to load the HXC.ROM

1) I booted with my prepared 512 SD Card
2) :LOAD EPD17Z12:EXT
3) :LROM HXC.ROM

Changed mi 512MB SD by Zozo 2GB SD ( from Zozo image )
Here at this point the SD Card must be switched.

4) :HXC
5) Select disk B and worked.

I'll prepare a video for those who have HxC Slim or Gotek

First card is only used for load HXC.ROM? Then try to find someone (Gflorez) who can write it to EPROM.

Hi Zozo, I can write eproms, eeproms and whatever. I'll do it as soon as possible.

The main question is whether the HxC Slim and Gotek worked. Now that we know it works all,  is because there's no possibility to select a disk image if not in autoboot mode or indexed.

To overcome this problem it occurred to me to use another SD card to which I added a AUTOBOOT.HFE with various files and boot from it. At the time I had in ROM loaded the HxC and could change the SD card into the HxC everything started to work and must only be done once.

Then we work without having to make any change.

The attached files are for the initial boot or initial SD, once everything is loaded and the SD changed will not need it anymore.

It is only a temporal solution while he get his SD reader.

He already has Exos 2.4 inside, but no cartridge, so he is waiting to put HxC and other Roms inside the adapter.

Another option would be to put a bigger Eprom on the Exdos card like he did inside his EP.

With EXDOS 1.4 you have free space on the second segment, then possible combine with HXC ROM. EXOS 2.4 can detect the secondary ROM.

I don't know if he has extended yet the Exdos socket to 32k. Probably they(the Spanish builders) only planned a 16k Eprom like on the original card.

Can you do a bin for him?, or still better, can you begin a new tread on how to combine Roms?

Does the SD adapter need special combinations or the same?

I know, the information is there, but disperse, I think.

You already did a wonderful tutorial about socket modifications....
