Hardware Sprites?
« on: 2012.September.19. 10:28:42 »
Has anyone ever tried using the EC0-3 inputs for hardware sprites?

It looks like it could be done quite easily with either a high speed MCU hooked up to a dual port SRAM to act as a line buffer, or a small 5v FPGA.

Would make an interesting project! :)

Sorry, I should have elaborated a bit. I'm a game developer by trade, and like the idea of writing new games for old systems as it's a different kind of programming and different set of problems to what we have today. I've been pondering doing something on the Enterprise for a while, but lack the time currently.

I also happen to like hardware development, so I saw the Enterprise as an interesting way to combine the two.

I know it's completely daft as the hardware sprite cartridge itself would probably be a one-off, so the only person who'd be able to see the game would be myself. However I still find the idea really interesting! Hardware sprites were all the rage when I was growing up.... ;)
