Are the outputs of both the data recorder to the enterprise essential? I want to use a normal walkman style player that's new and half the price of a second hand data recorder. Can I use just a stereo output from a cassette player into the input on the back of the enterprise?

Yes. Enterprise have a stereo socket at input (only one channel used).

Yes, but it can be a hassle ...

On the EP there are four jacks, two for input and two for output.

On the input side there is a 3.5 sized one and an 1.2 sized one.

The bigger is the audio line and the smaller is the romote control.

When the EP loads a file from the tape,

there are "PAUSEs" while the EP processes the loaded data chunk.

Along these processings the tape would roll and that time on the tape would be a waste.

But on the original EP tape there is this distinct remote line, with what the EP physically stops the rolling of the tape.

It is easier now, if you make special wav files with tools like tapir, and play those wav files from mp3 players or such ... In those wav files there will be silent segments while the EP will process the loaded data, and the next data segment in time will be after the sufficient length of silence.

Problem with "PAUSE" is only in special situations (relocatable files, Basic programs read data files, some compressed programs). Most games can work without remote control.
