Title: Nebulus CPC port+other Amstrad ports
Post by: Tekopaa on 2020.October.06. 20:06:23
Hi

Noticed that CPC version of Nebulus/Tower toppler  is not ported to Enterprise. Port to CPC is great little slower than on C64 but playable. Iam sure it would run smoother on  EP and sound better :)

Szívesen!

Here's a more detailed game list:
http://www.ep128.hu/Ep_Games/Games_09_eng.htm

The titles are in alphabetical odrer, besides the name of the game you can find the year, publisher, type, machine and sometimes a short info about it, mostly in Hungarian: http://www.ep128.hu/Ep_Games/Leiras/Nebulus.htm

Another comprehensive game list (a bit different from the one linked above), also in alphabetical order:
http://ep.homeserver.hu/Programok/Games/00/0.htm

Have fun, cheers: Gábor

Welcome in the forum! It is interesting to see that somebody from Finland is also interested in the Enterprise. Do you have an own machine? Do you use the emulator? When did you first hear of the Enterprise?

Do you have picture from the 3d printed joy? :)

I think your machine was not so expensive if you could buy it under 150€ , the truth is that 20 years ago it was much cheaper.

Köszi :)

I modded switch to PSU it was rather annoying to reset computer. The SD-adapter needs cold start so reset wont help if you wanna change game etc :)

Andy and Ivan did a really good job on both those ports, and it was really nice to see scrolling in an Amstrad game!

OTOH, the Amstrad does have simpler background graphics than the Spectrum (probably due to lack of memory).

Either way, you wouldn't likely see much (if any) improvement on the Enterprise, because the game's screen layout doesn't allow it to take easy advantage of the Enterprise's features, and it would take a major rewrite of the game code to change that.

My absolut favor in C64 was Samurai Warrior it has decent Amstrad CPC port only with bad music.

By the way.
It's possible integrate to EP version of Nebulus hard levels ("Mission 2") from Nebulus DOS version? That version has EGA graphics (not as common CGA version)

On this screen (https://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/16494-tower-toppler-dos-screenshot-title-screen-2-ega.gif) you can see that "Mission 1" label.

it depends on if it uses the same format as CPC version.

Nebulus hard harder levels :) I was sure game basic levels were hard as rock.

Not so hard. Only at one level (one of the last) you can go astray. But all other has only one way (with minimal branching).
In my childhood I have only version with endless timer so I can freely explore all levels.
And at year 2005 I've beat DOS version without any cheating (at the 35 try in several days, or something). Later I've find out about another DOS version which contain additional harder levels.

it depends on if it uses the same format as CPC version.

I compared the format of the level data in the ZX and CPC versions - they are identical.

[attach=1]

For the DOS version, the level storage format is almost the same.

(white is same data)
[attach=2][attach=3]

I can try to parse the level coding format (it's not like RAW or RLE compression - something hybrid) but there will be a problem with the fact that the height (and therefore amount of data) of the each tower may be different. And will be need to change the entry points of data for each level (I definitely can't handle this).
