Loading Games into EP128 Emulator
« on: 2011.February.05. 20:24:14 »
Hello,

Having used ZX Spectrum emulators for some time, I wanted to have a go with the Enterprise so downloaded the MS Windows version of the EP128 Emulator.  I downlaoded one of the .zip files of games and have files with various extensions from this site.  Could someone possibly go through the basics in a step by step way of loading games onto the emulator?

I have found how to load the exos232uk.rom, but I am rather stuck from there.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Very best wishes

Peter Jones

Many thanks for the note. I have not used GameBase64 but this version for the enterprise sounds very interesting.  I look forward to trying it.

If anybody has any links to English instructions on the more manual way of doing things I would still be interested.

Best wishes

When loading a game the first file should be one with COM extension because it is either a stand-alone program or a loader which loads e.g. PRG, SCR files. These last mentioned file types cannot be run in themselves. (Do not be confused by the fact that PC DOS programs also have the extension COM.)

Besides the COM files you can directly load files with TRN (game with eternal life), BAS (basic programs) and EXT (system extension) extensions.

In the emulator: file/configuration/load from ascii file
Select from the ep128uk directory the EP_128k_Tape_FileIO_TASMON config file.
This is have a fast memory test, and virtual file IO for accessing your PC files.
Make any work directory, and unpack to this directory the downloaded programs.
In the emulator options/set working directory
Select your work directory.

Now when the emulated Enterprise at the IS-BASIC prompt, then press the F1 key.
Then a file selection window displayed, now you can select which file wanted to load.
Usualy the .COM files are the starting file of the programs.

Thanks,

In the .zip file of arcade games (From this site) there are a lot of games which only seem to have a .DTF extension.  There is a file called start which I can load using the instructions above, but it seems to be looking for a disk image.

Many thanks.

Peter

Try using the configuration "EP_640k_EXOS232_EXDOS_utils.cfg". It includes the "DL2" utility, which can load the DTF files. At the IS-BASIC command prompt, type either:
:DL2 GAME.DTF
to load "GAME.DTF" from the directory previously selected with Alt+F, or
:DL2 FILE:
to select the file using a file dialog.
