Hi,...and Question about Emu ep128
« on: 2009.February.12. 18:51:02 »
First I want to say : Hi all, I'm new here !  :)
My Name is Vicman,38 Years, I come from Germany, and I love to collect old "Homecomputers" !
My Nickname is because my first Homecomputer was a Commodore Vic-20 -:)

I've never had an Enterprise, shame on me !
But now I've found this Great Emu128 & I've downloaded some Games and Disk-Images, to test the Emu.

Now I have some Questions, and I hope, you can help me.....

I've found out, how to use the Emu128 with Disk-Images.....
But I've also download here some "single"-Games (your Disk_all Folder) , that were not on a Disk-Image-file.

1. How can I put this *.com *.prg *.trn  etc...  into the Emulator & start them ?
Do I have to make a Disk-Image-File ? and if yes, how can I do this ?
(first I thought, I have to use this "set working directory" - to the Game-Folder, but that wont work ? ! )
If I need this "working Directory for the  "*.com-Games" , how can I open it on the Emu ?

2.Wich File-extensions has the Tape-Images, and how to use them in the Emu ? *.wav ?

3. Is it possible to use a Gamecontroller in the Emu ? (I have an USB-Competition and a Gamepad)

'cause the manuals etc... for this emu is in the Hungarian Language, I've much trouble to understand.....
My English is maybe a little poor, but i hope I understand your answers

Thanks for reading,
Ciao Vicman

For direct access to files on the PC file system, first you need to check the "Enable virtual file I/O" option in the "Machine/Configure..." window, that can also be opened with Shift+F10. Then load a machine configuration that includes epfileio.rom, using the "File/Configuration/Load from ASCII file (Alt+Q)" dialog, for example EP_128k_EXDOS_FileIO.cfg.
This resets the emulated machine, and the files in the selected working directory (you can use the 'Alt+F' keyboard shortcut to quickly change the working directory) can be accessed using the FILE: device, which is automatically made the default. When trying to open a file with an empty name (for example, by pressing F1 in BASIC), the file can be selected in a GUI dialog.
It is possible to change the default device with the commands :def_dev_disk, :def_dev_file, and :def_dev_tape.

2.Wich File-extensions has the Tape-Images, and how to use them in the Emu ? *.wav ?

Tape images usually have the ".tap" extension, but the emulator also supports the use of audio (.wav) files as tape images. However, most Enterprise software is available as .com, .prg, etc. files, or sometimes as disk images, and tape images are not very common.

Yes, the emulator does support joysticks and gamepads, and these are mapped by default to the EXT1 and EXT2 joysticks. You can customize the keyboard and joystick mapping with "Options/Keyboard map (Alt+I)".

Disk images can be created with an utility like VFD, and you can also use the floppy drive of the PC directly (assuming that you have a machine that still includes one :)).

Hi IstvanV,

WOW ! Thank you for your fast reply   ;-)
Hope I understand your post correctly....I'll try it out (maybe this evening or tomorrow)
And of course, I will give you a reply, if i get it to work !

btw.
I allready have the VFD, cause i've tried first the emu32, but i think the emu128 is the better choice ? !
Is the Emu128 also for "Enterprise32" - Games, or only Games for the 128 ?

and....is it also possible to load "pur" *.com or *.prg's etc.. in Emu32 v1.20 ?
On this Emu I've (also) only find out , how to use the Disk-Images by using the VFD

Thanks again for your answers  :smt002

p.s.
I have a Floppy-Drive on my PC.....but no Disk's at all -:)

Hello Vicman
Yes you are able to load .com, .bas, etc files into EP32 also.
1. you should choose a tape memory config (ALT+F2, then choose for example 640k, EXOS 2.3, tape.cfg)
2. pull down File menu, then select Select Directory for tape files... , select the directory, where you copied the files
3. you can load the programs. ;)

Enjoy using Enterprise emulators. ;)

I use EP32 in this way almost, and I use disk images on EP128emu.

It has more features, and the emulation accuracy may sometimes be better, although new users may find EP32 to be simpler to use at first.

There is actually no Enterprise 32 machine, the '32' in EP32 probably means that it is a 32-bit Windows program. Both emulators emulate the same Enterprise machines,

Yes, the tape emulation in EP32 allows access to files in a way similar to the FILE: device of ep128emu, but it is read-only, as far as I know. It does not have "real" (hardware level) tape emulation.

Hi again,

couldn't waiting for testing it
And I have to say : ALL WORKS FINE  :smt026

I can use all Fileextensions and my Joystick work's also nice !

The only questions left are :
[Can I use this Emu also for EP32-Games &] - Forget this Question, you've allready answerd !!! ( I need some eyeglasses :-) )

@ IstvanV, you wrote :
It is possible to change the default device with the commands :def_dev_disk, :def_dev_file, and :def_dev_tape.

How can I Type this commands in the Emu ? how to open a command-line ?......
What commands at all, can be used in the commandline

I ask for this Reason :

As i've told you, I collect old 8bit-Computers, and I do also collect all Games for them.....
To archiving & playing these Games, I use the Frontend emuControlCenter. Short : ECC.
At this time, you can archiving & playing over 100 Computer,Handhelds & Consoles with this program.
You can start Games directly from ECC. But for doing this, you often need a "script" for the different Emu's.

Andreas (nickname:ECC) from Germany , and Sebastiaan (Phoenix) from the Netherland, are the Developers from ECC.
This Frontend is still in Development, but they has allready released a 1.00 Version -:)

I'am just a Member of the ECC-Forum, and help a little by making "Imagepacks" for the Vic-20 (screenshotpackage)

"Phoenix" is writing the Scripts for the different Emu's. (also some other User's do this)
And for the Script's they almost need the command-lines ! - ,so the Emulator works nice in ECC.

Maybe you're also interrested in this Projekt, and you can help by making the "Enterprise" workable in ECC.
Or maybe you're also a 8bit-Collector and want take a look to ECC  ;-)

Thanks for your Time & Help !
Ciao,
Vicman

Just type in at the BASIC prompt!
In the IS-BASIC the : start the system commands (called as EXOS command, because this is the name of the Enterprise's operating system)
If you use a disk configuration then you can use the standard DOS commands: DIR, CD, COPY, etc
For exaple:
:dir a:*.com

At this page you can download scanned user manuals for a IS-BASIC, EXDOS and etc.

Hallo Attus,

Vicman

Now the Translation :

It's good to know, that someone also understand the German Language. (If I don't know, how to say it in English)
But because the most User's here speak or understand English, I'll try to type my post's in both Languages

@ szipucsu :
Ich habe deine PM erhalten, und darauf geantwortet. -:)
Weiss nur nicht, ob du meine PM erhalten hast, da meine "outbox" leer ist ? !
EDIT : Hab' das "Häckchen" vergessen bei "Save a copy in my outbox"  ;-)

Gruß
Vicman
