-
Igen õk azok!
Lehet hogy igazad van a golyót illetõen.
Szoktam náluk különféle speckó gumi alkatrészeket venni és gyártatni(hõálló, olajálló, "érdekes" formályu...)
Szerdán beugorhatok hozzályuk érdeklõdni ha kell.
Hátha tudnak kezdeni valamit a régi golyókkal új bevonat stb..
Zoli
-
Nana!
Apró morzsákra... Tehát a "golyó újra gyártás" lenne az egyedüli megoldás.
Zozo méretei alapján.
-
Szerdán beugorhatok hozzályuk érdeklõdni ha kell.
Az jó lenne! Elõre is köszi!
-

Anno az én Patkányom golyója is ragadni kezdett, aztán repedezni, végül morzsolódni, majd szétesett. :|
Most láttam a Discoveryn, hogyan készül a gumi jégkorong: nyersgumit, szénport és olajokat kevernek össze.
Akkor marad a teljesen ujra gyártás ötlete!
-
Talán megoldódik a dolog :ds_icon_cheesygrin:
-
Nem lehetne valami ólom golyót tenni a mûanyag golyóba? :-P :-D
Vagy mit tudom én... Súly nélkül aligha lesz jó. Valamivel meg kellene tömni. (Homok? :-D)
-
Az eredeti se túl nehéz, ami itt van kéznél PC-s egér (Logitech M-048) annak nehezebb a golyója.
-
Holnap kiderül...
Kiderült? :-)
-
Hát a golyó egyenlõre "megakadt" :(
-
Kedden megyek hozzájuk mekis cuccokért!
Naná hogy rá kérdezek :ds_icon_cheesygrin: nehogy tényleg el felejtsék...
-
Ok, köszi elõre is!
-
Nekem van egerem, persze golyó nélkül...
Engem érdekelne a "javítás"!
-
... és a görgõid hogy vannak...? ;-)
(Az eddig látottak alapján van egy tippem... ;-) )
-
Ezzel a témával mi lett?
És ha kezeli akkor mi lesz? Ebbõl a szempontból tökmindegy!
-

Szia! Látom mostanában újra látogatod a fórumot :ds_icon_cheesygrin:
Ezzel a projekttel mi a helyzet?
-
Szia!

Emiatt sajnos nehézkes a többi egérhez képest.
-
Részemrõl a szerencse!
Legalábbis sok PS/2 rágcsálóhoz adtak soros átalakítót is.

Ez a patkany hogy mukodott? Marmint EP-n mire csatlakozik, sw-bol hogy kerdezheto le?
-

Addig is tedd közzé, milyen stiftet használtassak családom női tagjaival! :-D

I"m interested in one of that patkánys ...
I can ask in a near workshop as they mould nitrilo toric joints for autos.
-
Dimensions of the pulleys are 13.6 mm outer diameter, 6mm inner and 6.4mm thick.
The ball is 32.5 to 33mm diameter but, how much it weights? Is it solid or has metal core?
Other question: The surface has to be adherent like silicone, as in modern mouses, or enough to be like gummy?
-
I've mid-understood SzörG in his web that his ball was solid gum with an oil treatment to make it more adherent...
-
gflorez I do not know the original weight, I think you can not go wrong
if heavy.
the original is solid, but it would be better metal core
the adhesion of the surface is the essence, the plain is not good :-)
-
I think the measures can be in inches, as rounded 12.7mm is 1/2", 6.35 is 1/4" and 32mm is 1+1/5".
It can be?
-

Igen, "kérsz"! 2db. -ot, mert Zozonak is.... :-) (Köszönöm!)
(Esetleg valahol összefuthatunk, de posta is szóba jöhet, ahogy gondolod...)
-
In the workshop they say the minimum order is of 100 units...
About the wheels they say each would cost 1.5 euro... but then you'll have to pay 150...
They don't do balls but can do hollow hemispheres (then you can fill with an iron ball and glue them). The price must be calculated.
The material can be silicone or other soft stuff.
-----------------
I don´t know... it's expensive. Better you try with that SzörG's balls. Filling them with sand or iron filings will do the trick.
But the wheels is the easiest part, they doesn't need to be soft, and there are gum joints utilized in old water taps that have that or similar measures. I will try to find some..
-
Put a picture up if you try out solutions! :-)
-
Here is one I`ve found in my tools-box. It has exactly 15mm outer diameter, 6 inner and 6 thick. Sadly only have one....
-
Sorry, it has been taken with the phone....
-
Sorry, it has been taken with the phone....
This is a water-seal, or auto parts? :-)
In car repair shop can made a metal parts vulcanized rubber coating ...
still thinking about what it be a "base" of this ball? A ball bearings, or second-hang PC mouse ball?
My deodorant ball experiment is not good enough ;-)
-
It's a water seal made of gum. I have to search for more, but they where common on old water taps.
About the ball, the best option can be to find a hollow gum ball with near that diameter, then fill it with something heavy. An iron ball of a bearing can work, but you must find the same inner diameter.
New manufactured parts are very expensive if not done in series of 100 or more pieces.
Better is to find some toy ball and adapt it to suit your needs.
-
And, what about directly a 33mm iron ball?
It can work if you use one of that soft mats that where utilised not so long ago with ball mices.
-
Or silicon balls... (http://brightfuture.en.alibaba.com/product/661410649-50263631/LICENSED_2PK_BOUNCE_BALL_33mm.html)
-
I've found this (http://www.australianvaporizers.com.au/store/oil-slick-32mm-slick-ball-minis-w-acrylic-jar.html). It seems like a silicone container to perfume wardrobes. Filled with an appropriate iron ball can do the trick.
It appears to be perfectly spherical when closed.

I was happy too fast ...

Those slickballs seem to be the ideal solution.
There are some on ebay but the proper are the four little ones.
Look at this picture I've found of a big one:

Those slickballs seem to be the ideal solution.

... and this it would be correct in a size?
-
The kit (http://www.australianvaporizers.com.au/store/oil-slick-32mm-slick-ball-minis-w-acrylic-jar.html) with four balls inside a container is 32mm dia. each.
Search "slickball" on ebay. You'll find some cans(the same) with a big ball and others with four little balls.
-
On other advertisement they say the same balls have 3.5cm dia. I don't know if this (http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjQwWDY0MA==/z/b4oAAOSwcu5UNAUj/$_12.JPG) picture can help to know if that balls fit.
-
Those silicone containers are made specially to transport cannabis resin.....no joke! They have similar tact than real mouse balls and the inside cavity is spherical.
The diameter is 31mm outer and 22mm inside. Once filled with the appropriate iron ball it weights more than enough.
They only have two drawbacks:
The cavity is not centred so if you throw it to rode it makes odd movements like Humpty Dumpty...Not a great problem as the movement of a mouse is usually gently.
The other is a little plane in one of the halves to prevent it rolling when stand up (you can see it on the white-black ball), but I'll try to add some of the same material and then complete the shape grinding it , as I have already done with the burrs of the purple one.
-------------------
About the pulleys I have found cheap 14mm or 15mm dia. tap joints, but they are only 4mm thick, enough with the new ball's conditions I suppose.... The inner dia. is also 4mm, but then they can be pushed in place without glue.
I don't have a Patkany so I don't know if they will fit, but better than nothing.
-
For me in the future the trundles my problem! :ds_icon_frown:
(We found a bullet accidentally female deodorant in stick! :) )
-
I don't want the balls and pulleys for me. I have planed to send them to one of you when finished...
I can't stand (Enterprise) things not working.....
-
I've thinking about the iron ball. If I put a smaller one and fill the gap with silicone it will displace the gravity point.
-
How does the Rat work?
Is it a "Joystick mode" mouse?, or does it have an own protocol?
-
The original EP mouse is same as a joystick. When you move it forward, it sends a joystick signal that it was moved up, as long as you moved it. It dosn't matter how fast you move it, it signalise only the fact "I am moving right now". Ant that's the problem with it, you have to wait, until the pointer reach the target, because the pointer moves with constant speed. For those who get used to use a PC mouse is this method is a little bit strange.
-
I don't want the balls and pulleys for me. I have planed to send them to one of you when finished...
I can't stand (Enterprise) things not working.....
One remark to this post: You can use some hot liquid plastic for this purpose. You only have to continously rotate ball, so you can get smooth surface. The speed has to be under 20..100 RPM. There are microwave oven motors on e-bay, they can slow speed.
I would recomend to try polyurethane. It is elastic, not so rigid as ABS. But of course rubber is the best solution.
-
I only was curious about how to add the Patkány to the Universal Mouse Driver (https://enterpriseforever.com/programming/universal-mouse-driver/msg48108/?topicseen#new). If it works in joystick mode it can be used with INPUT_DEVICE=1 or 2.
I don't own it, but I would like to have one....
------------
The Patkány has three buttons. I assume one of them is Fire, but, what about the two others? How do you read a pressed button?
-
I have found a funny video of a Czech man that demonstrates the use of a Patkány.
I can't see the strange commands he enters on the Enterprise. I think he wants to prove that it acts like a joystick, but the mouse is not seen on action. May be he also doesn't have a proper ball. In a moment the mouse case opens...
He even tries to connect a serial mouse to the controller port with a d-sub adapter....
At last the drawing program that comes with the mouse gets corrupted or doesn't load....

-----------------
Seems that all the lost Patkánys surfaced on the Czech Republic. Why?
-
De most jön a fekete leves...
A „patkány” dobozának kinyitása (http://szergitata.blog.hu/2012/07/22/a_patkany_dobozanak_kinyitasa)
Már annak is "hűlt" helye se lenne, a szó legszorosabb értelmében.
-

Sorry, I will not translate this message, Google would produce an unintelligible mess. Also, I will use the pictures (https://enterpriseforever.com/hardver/javitsunk-patkany-t/msg8412/#msg8412) at the first commentary of this thread as reference:
Now at home I am testing the patkány.
Once opened, I see that in total only eight wires are used, the four directions, fire, J common, ground and +5v. Fire is placed on the middle button.
The other buttons act as some sort of memory switches, the last vertical direction is stored on the left button, and the last horizontal direction of the patkány movement is stored on the right button. But only the middle button has auto repeat, so I don't see the point of that two accessory buttons.
The shafts of the two coordinate potentiometers offer an appreciable resistance to turn, so I understand the necessity of that 14 mm of diameter gum pulleys. Also the base of the housing has only two pads on the left side, and the ball rotates at the right and acts as the third pad. I imagine that this archaic mouse has to be frictioned against the table to work, probably is for this that the ball housing has a bearing ball at the ceiling and two more at the other side of the shafts. The ball must fit thigh, completely imprisoned against the pulleys and bearings. It only has to be firm and anti-slip, soft gum, the same as the pulleys, and its weight is not so important.
On the other side, on a conventional(modern) computer mouse, the ball works "hanging" on its housing, and the case slides on the table by means of slippery pads. The two coordinate shafts are moved passively by the ball, and don't offer resistance to turn.
-
I have used two gum seal washers from faucet parts for the pulleys:
Mine are 14mm outer diameter, 4mm inner, 4mm thickness. They are easily found on every hardware store here in Spain. The shafts have about 6 mm dia., so the new pulleys will remain immobile in its place without glue. We have some clearance here, because the potentiometers and shafts adapt themselves to the ball diameter by means of springs.
But 14mm(plus a little of enlargement due to the fitting) is probably bigger than the original, and they touch on the upper flange of the pulley housings. It is necessary to cut a little of plastic on the ceiling cap of the mouse ball housing. Here in this picture you can see the flange that needs to be cut.
[attach=1]
With the ceiling cap done and mounted in place, I have tested some diameters of ball, but I only had 30mm and 35mm ones. The first is a silicone bouncing ball that has probed to be excessively thin to serve us, but also the second, made of solid plastic, doesn't enters completely on the hole. I think that the ideal bore will be 33,34mm, being an English manufacture surely they have used an 1-5/16'' diameter.
The next step is to buy some iron balls for measurement, from 32mm to 34mm diameter. Once found the exact measure, I will search for a definitive gum or silicone solid ball. There is no necessity of a weight inside the ball, only that it wouldn't slip the pulleys or the table surfaces.
Edit: Today I have measured correctly the balls with a caliper, one has 28,5 to 29,5 mm dia., and the other 33 to 33,5mm dia., they are very irregular. So the optimum measure has to be between 31 and 32mm.
-
I have found a silicone bouncing ball of about 31,3mm diameter. Once mechanised the moulding flanges with sandpaper, it seems to have the minimum measure. I will test it this evening at home.
-
It seems to work with this little Basic program:
10 PRINT JOY(1)
20 GOTO 10
Then I have tested the mouse with the EGI, to discover that one of the pulleys is a lightly eccentric, so the vertical coordinate doesn't work very well.
Also the resolution is very low, I have to lift the mouse two times to make one fast diagonal. But I have also noticed that I don't have to lift the mouse with a slower movement. I have to move at its rhythm...
It can be that on a text environment it is enough.
I want to know if a 32mm ball could fill better the hole. Tomorrow I will buy some more gum washers to find the perfect pulley to continue the tests.
-
Congrat, the 1st almost repaired Patkány ;)
-
You said it, almost...
I have bought four more gum washers, but now I can see that they are all very bad cut. It is a miracle to have found one that is perfect. I will mechanise them to work.
And about the ball, I have found a nice bag of bouncing balls on a party shop. but they have at least 33mm dia.. I have to grind one of them to a perfect sphere of 32mm.
-
Here you can see some patkány action. The resolution of the movement is near to zero.... But if the mouse is slowly moved it can serve for the EGI.
Now I know what the extra buttons do. The Left switch deactivates the vertical movement, and the Right one cancels the horizontal movement. It can be seen on the video (https://www.dropbox.com/s/f6jnjxm3wuqpkuf/Patkany%20action.mp4?dl=0).
Edit: sorry for the vertical video, Later I will try to fix it.
-
Now I know what do the extra buttons. The Left switch deactivates the vertical movement, and the Right one cancels the horizontal movement.
 Crazy...
-
Here is the fixed video (https://www.dropbox.com/s/oyh4do3zt1drlmg/Patkany%20action2.mp4?dl=0).
This test has been done with a 31mm ball, but it is too loose in the hole when the patkány turns. I have to test it with a 32mm ball.
-
As I have explained here (https://enterpriseforever.com/hardware/good-looking-edge-connector/msg62898/#msg62898), the mainboard edge connectors are displaced from the square holes of the case, on some Enterprise units more than on others.
The female Edge connectors used on the Patkány plug have very narrow contacts. The housing is very well constructed, and fits very precisely on the square hole of the computer case. But this precision causes problems of misalignment on some Enterprises with more displaced mainboard.
So, I suggest as the very first step to refurbish an original Enterprise mouse, to replace the old female edge connector with modern two contacts per pin ones.
The problem here is, that female edge connector used on the Patkány has a channel on both sides of the bakelite body, where it is held in place inside the plug housing. Modern female edge connectors lack that channel so, some modification has to be done.
-
Now I see that several things influenced the failure of the product:
- It has an outdated conception even for the time. I mean, having to press the mouse against the table.
-The cable goes to the user, but it has to be plugged behind the Enterprise.
-It is not proportional, I imagine because the control ports do not have a return pin and it was impossible to implement. Instead it was chosen to imitate a Joystick, which was not used to handle the editor of Basic or the word processor. But almost nothing for games either. In that world that until then had worked without mice, how to convince people to use it in that conditions?
-It is certainly one of the most bizarre mice I have ever seen, of appearance, but rare even in the usefulness of the three buttons. The middle is the main, the other two cancel out one of the coordinates. For what?
- Over time the rubber ball and pulleys have decomposed, but in fact it could have been decades in poor condition, even shortly after being manufactured.
On the other hand, there is no denying the good manufacturing of plastic molding, and the good quality of the cable and connector.
But above all, I can now say that the fiasco was due to the fact that it did not work in all Enterprises, a fault not attributable to Aztec (it was the company that made it for Enterprise Computers Ltd.), but to that there was an alignment defect on the rear ports of the computer.
Many thanks to Sinclair200 for being so kind to lend it to me.

These are the reason why it is called as rat :-)

Few days ago I found that Nidd Valley DigiMouse (http://collectionerus.ru/collections/old-mouses/16/) for BBC Micro is very similar for EP mouse.

Wow! Awesome find!
The rubber components also missing from these :-)
-
Good find!
This picture is from another page. The sphere dome resembles a lot to the Patkány.
But it is made of optical encoders.
This is the manual (http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org.uk/docs/NiddValley/NiddValley_DigimouseOpInst.pdf).
Curiously, it has a mode that behaves the same as the Patkány buttons:
[attachimg=1]
And also the cable has been put on the wrong side...
-
More evidences that the two mice share the same mechanics:
On this Link (http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6988), chriskgnr, probably the same Chris (http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org.uk/8bit_Upgrades/NiddValley_Digimouse.html), says:
"Hello to everyone!
I purchased from e(vil)bay a Nidd Valley DigiMouse for my BBC micro. :) Althought it was stated in the auction that the ball is missing, i thought that i could replace it with a standard mouse ball. I was wrong, because DigiMouse uses a ball with a much bigger diameter(32-33mm i think). :? I tried some other solutions like plastic balls, iron balls but with no avail. :( Does anyone in here, knows where can i purchase a ball that works with the DigiMouse? :D"
To me it reminds me a lot of things that have been said in this thread....

"no mouse ball" :-D
-
Of course It only shares the mechanics, not the electronics.
It had proportional movement according to the pin-out in the manual:
[attachimg=1]
This is a Spectrum digital variant more similar to the Patkány, pictures thanks to World Oof Spectrum:
Observe the plain cable and the strain relief boot at the mouse side, it is the very same one of the Patkány.
It had the same polyurethane ball with the same diameter of 32mm, but not the polyurethane pulleys. At least they have not been mentioned on the three sources we have now (http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?61309-Mouse-ball-for-the-Acorn-BBC-Micro-Nidd-Valley-Mouse).
Then, it can be that Aztec subcontracted the Patkány to the the company behind that name.
Other products of the same make (http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekpub.cgi?regexp=^Nidd+Valley+Micro+Products+Ltd$&loadpics=1).
Edit: I have found that there was a "Digimouse" and an "Anamouse", so it stands for "digital mouse", a Joystick-mouse like the Patkány.
-
Let me say only one last word about this device and then I will shut-up my mouth.....
This Spectrum version of the Digimouse is adapted by means of an interface Kempston clon( the Spectrum KC, also commercialised by Nidd valley), so it could be that on a future, a person with very few problems like me, would try to find one of these mice to connect it to the EnterMice....
I was joking, I have a lot of normal problems, like everybody...
-
Ok, not the last word... Now some boring facts I have found searching the web.
It seems that Nidd Valley Micro Products Ltd. founded on 1983 (https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/document-api-images-prod/docs/OPOLu4K21SW67pJv01Cnx9WcICJZhabnCYLt2JG86ho/application-pdf?AWSAccessKeyId=ASIAJHG3LHCWQQCHMB6Q&Expires=1492037016&Signature=t6fXNWV%2B2Vq6EeSiIAg4sflR328%3D&x-amz-security-token=FQoDYXdzEKr%2F%2F%2F%2F%2F%2F%2F%2F%2F%2FwEaDIS%2F%2BJi9939Kh2%2BEKCK3A%2BY312bfHS6C03FagrqGqLDRupo14PD5nygqbgVHFgAL1o1l2BpfrBjvgmObc%2BM3X4p6YSegftJ9sg2CpDwSv%2F9tyB%2BpPwkeAfq7EEJZtL8j0MHIMUANLBjOdO7JKnZxenDPNwLQlA%2BLO1yMK0TIYIfVav04VqPx8oDR1IvM6415vsWj9uFEU70l8uOQ8IgJYa7yG2iN5T1PhGyYAEuHy5Rrv4g8jdzuTVZTViCq1ALiydnmLcxcFUqwtRJJTe6Z2MzLuV0nvSfYTMqr51xdaWEtRdP35nFd2Oi%2BLI%2FPTAKdXyRJ9QBegobvwZTAkaBmGH2OCXdRfVfmzsiWo7K1cNfuW%2F13ClZ6TNtB4zLOMJVJyicBibDOTTUs56RMx51O%2FBdfpbviJPhK4RjucJ0jBLEjZ4ORyVvgQ8Et6k4qVyqLvdT7pRKrOYbtVP%2BrI3RgWimZ1FK0f8RiG%2BnoGrk4qAkqU8nJtt8%2FYpjbffTuqcO0SxfeY7hJmmTum5615xCKRxpvAHvAKGRw%2FqwxVac3CCAybqRVROJHir9aKTwHYu66B4FpXJgeV3qanCwGHypmaqN77hNVpSEoz8K5xwU%3D), still exist today under the name Nidd Valley Medical Ltd. The company changed of name on year 1995. The founder was Engineer Mr. Keith Edward Tippey (http://www.checkcompany.co.uk/director/5991611/MR-KEITH-EDWARD-TIPPEY), director until his resignation on 2003. Previously he had been director and founder of a company named Kelan Engineering Ltd., now dormant under the name Kelan Circuits Ltd.
The actual business of Nidd Valley Medical Ltd (https://www.niddvalley.co.uk/). is the manufacturing and commercialisation of electro-stimulation devices oriented to pain release.

Look at this picture from the first commentary of this thread:
Look at the "nvmp" anagram letters at the bottom. They refer to "Nidd Valley Micro Products".
--------------------------------------------
Now I got that Digimouse made for the BBC (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nidd-Valley-Digimouse-Acorn-BBC-Micro-Computer-/122436563594?hash=item1c81c9b28a:g:kzkAAOSw3utY6LI8) from Ebay. Soon I will put some photographs here.
-
Digimouse inside.
-
Look at the "nvmp" anagram letters at the bottom. They refer to "Nidd Valley Micro Products".
Great investigation!
I think the Enterprise version have a more IC-s because the Enterprise control port working: the direction lines are output instead input. Need a active conversion electronics like the Boxsoft joy converter.
-
Exactly but, according to the manual, in the BBC the pulses are interpreted by interrupts. I have to see how it is done.
-
The movement shafts are now entirely made of the same plastic, no degrading pulleys here.
The shafts have a slotted disk like "modern" ball-mechanical mice, but housed on a receptacle surrounding it. On that swinging receptacle there are holes where conventional LEDs and sensors are inserted.
-
I have seen on the interesting Russian web page (http://collectionerus.ru/collections/old-mouses/) found by Slashnet, the pictures are of an earlier version of the Digimouse. It has the same mechanics as the Patkány, the same potentiometers or encoders and the same degrading pulleys:
[attach=1]
It has two chips instead of only one. Also it lacks the side locking selector that my Digimouse has.
Edit: Sorry, it is the same web page found by Slashnet.
-
I return to this again, now that, at last, I am the "proud owner" of one Patkàny...
I always have desired to compare it with the BBC Nidd Valley Digimouse that I already own.
[attach=1]
Both are bulky, but they seem to have more differences than similarities.
Until I turn they down... almost the same base, but rotated 180 degrees.
[attach=2]
So if I compare them rotated then I see what really happens.
[attach=4]
[attach=3]
It seems to me that the Patkàny is the early version, and they rotated the mechanism and rearranged the buttons on the Digimouse.
